In cooperation with 2013 Outdoor Fitness Series, there will be yoga classes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 7 through June 25, on the lawn or near the fountain at the University Plaza, 32 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. Two classes Tuesdays, May 14, and June 11 will be Zumba. The classes are free and open to everyone. David Hildebrand will present a concert of Music of the War of 1812 in America, Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. in the St. Mark's Fellowship Center, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro. For more than 30 years Hildebrand and his wife have appeared professionally at historic sites, museums and educational institutions and have collaborated on six full-length recordings. Their presentations are lively and dynamic, involving storytelling, scene-setting and humorous anecdotes. This performance is free and open to the public as part of the Maryland Humanities Council Maryland War of 1812 Commission.

North Hagerstown Lions Club members are selling Sheetz coupon books for $10 with an expiration date of Jan. 1, 2016. There are a few bonus books, as well, that cost $32 with an expiration date of Dec. 2, 2013. The books can be used in the Tri-State area. Proceeds will be used to help nonprofit agencies. Bollywood is coming to Boonsboro - in the form of the fitness craze Masala Bhangra. A introduction to the course will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church's Parish Hall. The class is a joint effort with FIT Boonsboro and St. Mark's. Cost for the one-day class is $10. Anita Binder, a licensed Zumba instructor with FIT in Boonsboro, said she discovered Masala Bhangra four years ago when she went to her first Zumba convention in Orlando, Fla. Masala means "spicy" in Hindi and Bhangra is a traditional folk dance from Punjab, India.

Line dance event changes location The Country Western Dance Association has changed the location for its first line dance event of the new year. The event will be held at Quincy Gym, 7888 Anthony Highway in Waynesboro, Pa. The event will be Saturday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 10 p.m. It will include line dancing for singles and couples. The event is open to the public. Admission costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. In addition, the group will offer line dance lessons Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard.

Zumba and Wii sports had no age limit Tuesday, as senior citizens were salsa dancing and playing Wii Bowling at the Robinwood Professional Center for the 2012 Senior Social. The annual four-hour event provided senior citizens with information about health and living choices they can make, two meals and several forms of entertainment. “Every time they have it, I come,” Falling Waters, W.Va., resident Mary Henson, 61, said. “It gets us out.” Dr. Stephen J. Kotch of the Meritus Medical Center Emergency Department and local historian Roger Keller addressed a group of seniors.

Zumba classes with Anita and Kelsey is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 18311 Lappans Road, Boonsboro. Anita and Kelsey have teamed up to offer a variety of Zumba classes, including zumba, zumba toning, zumba sentao and drums alive. Drop-in classes cost $5; class punch cards are also available. Special pricing is available for students. A free class is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Participants are asked to bring canned goods to donate to local charities.

Christ's Reformed Church will hold a Zumba gold/toning session every Monday and Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. The church is at 130 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown. The dance exercise is for those active seniors who enjoy keeping fit while exercising to the rhythms of cha cha, salsa, meringue, and even a bit of country, bhangra and swing. The session runs through the week of Dec. 17 and will resume the week of Jan. 10. Guests can attend their first class for free during the month of November (normal fee is $5)

Waynesboro Area Senior High School students took steps to fight pediatric cancer by staying on their feet for seven hours on Saturday during the second annual Waynesboro Mini-THON at the school. The Mini-THON, organized by the school's sports and marketing class, benefited The Four Diamonds Fund and pediatric cancer patients at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. The fund offsets the costs of treatment that insurance does not cover, as well as expenses that might disrupt the welfare of the child, such as car repairs, rent and household utilities, according to the fund's website.
