The following area students graduated May 14 from York College of Pennsylvania. • Megan Angleberger of Walkersville, Md., graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. • Alexander Bean of Ijamsville, Md., graduated with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. • Emily Busko of Chambersburg, Pa., graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. • Jason Christenberry of Frederick, Md., graduated with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.

Two local students have received academic achievement scholarships from York College of Pennsylvania. Caroline Sirface of Hagerstown and Nathan Brown of Frederick, Md., were awarded the scholarships. The college awarded Sirface a Transfer Merit Scholarship. She is a first-year student with an undeclared major at York College. The Transfer Merit Scholarship is a $2,000- per-year scholarship for full-time accepted transfer students. Eligible students must have enrolled full time at their most recently attended regionally accredited institution with a minimum earned grade-point average of 3.5 or membership in Phi Theta Kappa.

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Gardner-Webb University has announced that Sarah Keyser of Boonsboro was among the nearly 300 students who recently graduated during its fall commencement exercises. Keyser graduated with a BS degree in health/wellness. YORK, Pa. — The following area students graduated from York College of Pennsylvania on Dec. 22. Michele Riep of Fayetteville, Pa., graduated with a master’s degree in nursing. Laura Pearcy of Walkersville, Md., graduated with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

The Western Maryland Troopers Association has entered into an agreement with the Washington County Board of Education to award one $2,000 scholarship to a public high school senior who will be entering a college to study criminal justice. The association's executive board has reviewed scholarship applications from several Washington County High School seniors and has awarded the $2,000 scholarship for the fall 2010/11 academic year to Jason Hammond, a senior at Williamsport High School.

On Nov. 12, the Clear Spring High School FBLA visited York College of Pennsylvania. Adding a side of business to the trip - after all, FBLA does stand for Future Business Leaders of America - the group also toured the Wolfgang Candy factory. York College has programs ranging from nursing to French, and it specializes in business master degrees, something especially appealing to a business leadership group. From the college, the group went to the Wolfgang Candy factory, which remains the same today as it was in the early 1900s when it began.

The Community Foundation of Washington County has announced the Williamsport High School recipient of the Officer Christopher Nicholson Scholarship. Jason Hammond met the award criteria, and will attend York College to major in law enforcement and criminal justice. The scholarship fund was created as a result of Nicholson's death in the line of duty as a Smithsburg police officer. Since that day, his family, the community and the Blue Knights of Maryland have worked to support the scholarship fund, which makes awards at Nicholson's alma mater, Williamsport High School, and at Smithsburg High School.

Strine-Poe Allison Travers Poe and Steve Michael Strine were married Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Christ Church in Alexandria, Va. The bride is the daughter of Bill and Patricia Leary of McLean, Va. The bridegroom is the son of Bill and Kathy Strine of Maugansville. The bride is a 1992 graduate of McLean High School, a 1996 graduate of Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va., and is pursuing a master of business administration degree from Mary Mount College. She is employed as a systems analyst with Bearing Point.
