The Smithsburg boys team earned the fourth seed for the Maryland 2A-1A West lacrosse playoffs, which begin Thursday for all boys and girls teams. The Leopards will host No. 13 South Carroll at 7 p.m., after the No. 12 Smithsburg girls host No. 5 South Hagerstown at 5. Only the top four teams in each region were seeded. The other teams were placed on the bracket by a blind draw. The North Hagerstown boys and girls teams both host games Thursday - the No. 8 North boys play No. 9 Liberty at 5, followed by the No. 7 North girls vs. No. 10 Winters Mill at 7. The No. 7 South Hagerstown boys travel to play No. 10 Poolesville at a time to be announced.

BOYS BASKETBALL FREDERICK, Md. - Jair Brady had 16 points and eight rebounds and Clinton Jones had 15 points and nine rebounds as Thomas Johnson defeated North Hagerstown 66-53 on Monday night. John Truxillo scored 17 points and Tim Abercrombie tallied nine assists for the Patriots (5-0). Tyrell Wilson scored 20 points, Quielan Gantt added 15 points and eight rebounds and Jarrell Rodriquez had eight assists for the Hubs (2-3). Tuscarora 59, Smithsburg 31 FREDERICK, Md. - Hamilton Woodfolk led Tuscarora with 14 points and nine rebounds as the Titans defeated Smithsburg to remain unbeaten.

Course records were under assault Friday at the MVAL Cross Country Championships at Boonsboro High School. “Yeah, I mean, why not go for it?” said Williamsport senior Evan Hardy. In the morning's Antietam Conference (small-school) action, Hardy took the lead early in the boys race and never relinquished it, covering the Warriors' always-fast 3-mile course in a winning time of 15 minutes, 21.6 seconds. He finished 18.9 seconds ahead of runner-up David Dorsey of Catoctin, but was 10.1 seconds off the course record (15:11.5)

GIRLS SOCCER Maria Borland scored the game-winning goal as North Hagerstown beat defending Maryland Class 2A West champion Century 3-2 in overtime Thursday night. The Knights beat the Hubs in the region semifinals last year. Borland, who also had two assists, tied Courtney Whorten for most career goals at North. Katie Ritter and Stephanie Borland each added a goal for the No. 2 Hubs (4-1). No. 1 Jefferson 4, Hedgesville 0 HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. --Â Jenny Perry had two goals and an assist as Jefferson shut out Hedgesville.

That's the time the North Hagerstown senior posted to win her first race of the year Thursday at the Maryland Class 2A West Cross Country Championships on Middletown's 3-mile course. "It's been a disappointing season. I feel like I could have done better, but I haven't performed well," said Hanlin, who finished seventh at both the Washington County and MVAL Antietam meets in the last two weeks.
