Kaelii Stout, a 2011 graduate of Williamsport High School, is the recipient of the Future Teachers Scholarship from Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, the international honorary society for women educators. The scholarship is awarded annually by Sigma Chapter to an outstanding graduating senior girl in Washington County who plans to enter the teaching profession. Kaelii plans to attend Towson University and major in elementary education.

The Williamsport Girls and Women in Sports Committee has announced that Kaelii Stout is the winner of  the 2011 Williamsport Girls and Women in Sports $500 scholarship.   Kaelii played soccer and participated in both indoor and outdoor track at Williamsport High School.   She will attend Towson University in the fall and plans to major in elementary education.

Secrest-Teson Kevin and Nancy Secrest of Hagerstown announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsey Michelle Secrest, to Mark Teson Jr., son of Mark and Sue Teson of Latham, N.Y. Ms. Secrest is a 1998 graduate of Williamsport High School and received a bachelor's degree from Frostburg State University in 2004. She is employed with Garrett College in McHenry, Md. Mr. Teson is a 1999 graduate of Shaker High School in Latham, received a bachelor's degree from Frostburg State University in 2004 and a master's degree this year.

Fleet Master Chief (SS/SW/AW) Carl P. Weaver Jr. has taken the watch as the 14th Fleet Master Chief for U.S. Naval Forces Europe (NAVEUR). Weaver enlisted as an electronics technician in 1977 and volunteered for submarine duty for 18 years. A member of the Command Master Chief community since 1990, he has served as Chief of the Boat, the Command Master Chief for Commander Submarine Squadron 11. His duties will take him to othet bases and ships throughout Europe. Weaver is a graduate of Williamsport High School and Eastern Connecticut State College.

Thousands of students across the state audition each year for a limited number of spots, said Rob Hovermale, supervisor of Visual and Performing Arts of Washington County Public Schools. “This year is especially exciting due to the number of students selected from Washington County,” Hovermale wrote in an email.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Tuesday in honor of Dustin Smith, a student at Williamsport High School who was critically burned on Oct. 11. The blood drive will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 202, 400 American Legion Ave. in Williamsport. The Greater Alleghenies Region of American Red Cross Blood Services has less than a two-day supply of its desired seven-day inventory.

Crystal Little and Brian Coates were married April 12, 2008, at Pinesburg Baptist Church in Williamsport. The bride is the daughter of Leroy and Mary Little of Hagerstown. The bridegroom is the son of Patricia Shaffer of Falling Waters, W.Va., and the late Horace Coates. The bride attended Williamsport High School and is employed as an independent contractor with The Herald-Mail Co. The bridegroom attended Rockville High School. He is self-employed. They live in Hagerstown.

Williamsport resident Kemper Baker was awarded an $11,000 Provost’s Scholarship to attend Ashland University based on his academic achievements. A senior at Williamsport High School, Baker is the son of Richard and Beverly Baker. Baker is a member of the wrestling and football teams, and is a member of LIFE House Church West. The renewable Provost’s Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen based on high school grade-point averages and ACT/SAT scores.

Barbara Lee Taylor Shaw, 74, of Williamsburg, Pa., passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012. She was born in Williamsport, Md., and was a 1956 graduate of Williamsport High School. She enjoyed spending time with her family, farming, feeding calves and reading novels. Barb is survived by a daughter Wendy Sue Farrar of Worcester, Mass.; a son, Steve Shaw of Williamsburg; and six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were by John Bolger of Williamsburg. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
