A Berkeley Springs, W.Va., man was killed Saturday afternoon when his car struck a truck tractor head-on on the U.S. 522 bridge over the Potomac River, closing the span for hours, Maryland State Police said. David Wayne Mccumbee, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a state police news release. Mccumbee, driving a 1988 Toyota Corolla, was coming from West Virginia, going north on the bridge. Police said his car crossed the center line and hit a 2012 Freightliner truck tractor pulling a full-sized box trailer.

Four people were airlifted to area hospitals Wednesday evening after a head-on collision between two vehicles near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport south of Martinsburg, a fire official said. The severity of their injuries were unknown, according to Lt. Brad Mason of South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co. The call for units to respond to the crash, which involved a minivan and a two-door hatchback, went out about 8:03 p.m., for an area near the intersection of Airport Road and Snyders Lane, the dispatcher said.

A 55-year-old man is accused of trying to bribe a West Virginia State Police trooper after allegedly failing field sobriety tests, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Paul Tilman Chaney was arraigned Saturday by Magistrate Jim Humphrey on two felony counts of bribery of a State Police trooper, driving under the influence second offense and driving revoked for DUI first offense, according to court records. Court records list Hagerstown and Falling Waters addresses for Chaney, who was detained by Trooper Z.S. Conner early Saturday in the Walmart parking lot in Spring Mills, according to court records.

A man was shot in the arm by his girlfriend after a domestic dispute early Friday just outside Hedgesville, W.Va., according to West Virginia State Police. Timothy Butts, 32, came home drunk at 56 Lemen Court and began arguing with his girlfriend, Kimberly Jean Painter, 31, prior to the shooting, which happened about 1:40 a.m., police said in a news release. Butts grabbed Painter by the throat, choked her and threatened to wake up her son and “make him watch as he cut her throat and let her bleed out,” police said.

A helicopter was called to the scene of a traffic accident Friday night in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., a Jefferson County Emergency Services dispatcher said. The dispatcher said the accident was reported at 8:02 p.m. on Ridge Road. Neither the dispatcher nor West Virginia State Police had further details, including the exact location of the accident.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Three children who had been missing in a wooded area south of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., were found Sunday afternoon, according to Washington County Emergency Services. The children were checked out by paramedics and released to their parents, said Assistant Fire Chief D.J. Zahnow with the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Morgan County (W.Va.) Emergency Services requested search assistance from firefighters in Clear Spring and Hancock, but the children were found before those firefighters arrived, a Washington County 911 dispatcher said.

A 37-year-old Shepherdstown-area man died early Sunday after the car he was driving crashed into a tree along W.Va. 480 in Jefferson County, West Virginia State Police said Monday. Timothy David Kamer of 236 Maddex Drive was pronounced dead by county medical examiner Donald Shirley at the scene of the crash, which happened just after 3 a.m. north of Orleans Drive near Kearneysville, W.Va., according to a news release. Kamer was driving north in a white 1992 BMW on W.Va. 480, also known as Kearneysville Pike, when the car went off the west side of the road, rolled through a plain of grass and struck a tree in a head-on collision, police said in the news release.

An Inwood, W.Va., woman was killed Friday morning after the vehicle she was driving struck a pole and a tree along Leetown Road, according to West Virginia State Police. April Roberts, 40, of Inwood, was driving a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo south on Leetown Road at about 10:40 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, police said. The Isuzu ran off the east side of the road, struck a utility pole then a tree. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Jack Spindle, 39 also of Inwood, was in the vehicle when it crashed and was injured, police said.

A Harpers Ferry, W.Va., man died following a head-on accident Sunday morning near the intersection of W.Va. 9 and Bloomery Road, according to West Virginia State Police. The crash was reported at 4:11 a.m., according to a news release. Police said a 1994 Buick four-door sedan driven by Steven Michael Bernath, 53, of Harpers Ferry was traveling on W.Va. 9 when it crossed the center line and collided with a 2008 work van. Bernath, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was later pronounced dead by Jefferson County Medical Examiner Donald Shirley, the release said.

The body of a man was found floating face down Thursday evening in a quarry in the 200 block of Berkeley Station Road north Martinsburg, West Virginia State Police said. Sgt. C.A. Mahood said Friday morning that police were trying to identify the man. “He still had his clothes on, but nothing to identify him,” Mahood said. ¿It's currently under investigation.¿ Mahood said the body was discovered between 8 and 9 p.m.
