The Waynesboro Area School Board on Tuesday committed to offering tax savings to a potential new business at Wharf Road Industrial Park. Tax abatement will be offered through a Local Economic Revitalization Tax Abatement (LERTA) program. A manufacturer that could employ 50 to 60 people is looking to open a factory on Lot 8 in the industrial park in Zullinger, Pa., Washington Township (Pa.) Manager Mike Christopher told the school board. He did not identify the business during the meeting.

The Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce recently donated $2,500 to the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro to benefit “Destination ARTS!” Launched in July, Destination ARTS! features diverse, high-quality art in various mediums by established artists from around the country and talented local artists alike. It takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays; and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays at several galleries in downtown Waynesboro through the end of October.

Fourteen duplexes are proposed to be built near Antietam Dairy in the southern portion of the Borough of Waynesboro. The Waynesboro Planning Commission reviewed the land development plans Monday. The commission will advise developer Hometown Homes LLC to seek a time extension, allowing a consultant an opportunity to further review stormwater management plans. Four duplex buildings are proposed facing South Church Street and three facing Old Mill Road where the roads intersect, according to plans before the Waynesboro Planning Commission.

Earl R. Harbaugh, 92, of 9252 Rabbit Road South, Greencastle, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa. The service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery.

Police arrested a Waynesboro man accused of hitting a woman with his car and killing her early Sunday. Benjamin Rodger Savage, 31, of South Church Street is charged with homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or personal injury, involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving, Waynesboro police said in a news release. He is incarcerated in Franklin County (Pa.) Jail without bail, according to online court records. Officers allege Savage was driving a car that struck and fatally injured 22-year-old Kristi Lee Queen in the first block of West Sixth Street near its intersection with South Church Street.

Franklin County's borough councils, boards of township supervisors, school boards and county commissioners all regularly host meetings that can have a sense of being routine or ordinary. But the news that three people died during a shooting at a similar meeting in northeastern Pennsylvania on Monday evening left many locals reeling. “In the end, these tragic events are very sad for all citizens, not only government professionals,” Chambersburg (Pa.) Borough Manager Jeffrey Stonehill said.

Sandra Lee Garlock, 78, formerly of Hancock, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Julia Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown, Md. Born Oct. 29, 1934, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Lola Kauffman Lushbaugh. She was a retired assistant manager of rental units in Florida. She enjoyed attending Hancock United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Mae Shank of Hancock and Brenda Lee Moore of Sebring, Fla.; two sons, Robert Allen Garlock of Waynesboro, Pa., and Brian Keith Garlock of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James L. “Jim” Minteer, 74, of Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. A memorial Mass will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg, Pa. Arrangements are by Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
