Hydrant flushing in Hagerstown that had been scheduled for Monday and Tuesday has been postponed and will now begin on Wednesday and will continue through Thursday in the following area: Downtown Hagerstown consisting of the area bordered on the south by Antietam Street, on the west by Summit Avenue, the north by East Avenue, and on the east by Mulberry Street. Water customers in these areas, particularly those using washing machines, are cautioned to check their water supply for discolored water which may occur because of this work.

Hydrant flushing in Hagerstown is to begin today and run through Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the following areas: • The area bordered by West Church Street and Franklin Street to the south, Avon Road to the west, Marshall Street to the north and Burhans Boulevard to the east. The Washington County Board of Commissioners reached a consensus Tuesday to approve a zoning measure that would allow mining on 120.11 acres north of Hagerstown owned by cement company Holcim Inc. The land is north of Holcim's current limestone quarry near Old Forge Road. The company has said previously that the tract would be “reserves” to mine at a later date - likely at least 20 years away - and would replace about 90 acres of current reserves that the company has agreed to lease to the county at no cost for use as a park.

A water shutdown for the entire town of Keedysville is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20, according to the town's website, http://www.keedysvillemd.com . The water shutdown is expected to begin 9 a.m. on Sept. 20 and last all day. "Please plan accordingly and tell your neighbors," the announcement on the town's website advised. Crews from C. William Hetzer Inc. have been working to replace a water main on Main Street (Md. 845) in the town since early April, said Dan Conley, a supervisor for the company.

The City of Hagerstown will flush hydrants in the Halfway and Hagerstown areas through Friday.
