MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --Â A former manager of a Martinsburg car dealership was arraigned Friday on one count of embezzlement, which police allege was linked to his employment there, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Shawn David Bowders, 35, of 300 Strathmore Way in Martinsburg, is accused of writing down by $3,000 the cost of a Pontiac Grand Prix at the dealership for his own purchase last month, according to a complaint by West Virginia State Police Cpl. J.M. Walker.

Two sentenced on DUI charges By STACEY DANZUSO / Staff Writer, Chambersburg CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Two multiple drunken-driving offenders received harsh sentences with special provisions in a Franklin County court Wednesday. Marc B. Osman, 27, 222 Hartzel Drive, Fayetteville, Pa., will spend eight months and five days to 23 months in Franklin County Prison, and is barred from frequenting his favorite bar while on probation. "All three involved Dilly's. Dilly's is off bounds for you," said Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge John Walker.

By DAVE McMILLION Staff Writer, Martinsburg MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Morgan County businessman who was found dead in his home here Tuesday morning was stabbed five times in the upper body, according to West Virginia State Police. Two of the stab wounds found on Harry Theodore "Ted" Compton's body were fatal, said Sgt. Deke Walker. There was "another small injury" on Compton's body, but Walker declined to say what it was. The injury did not play a part in the death of Compton, former owner of T.H. Compton Trucking Co. in Berkeley Springs, Walker said.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A mother and son are accused of passing counterfeit checks bearing the name of a supposed disaster and emergency relief organization to buy a vehicle and pay the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Rose Lee Gray, 56, and her son, Andrew Robert Talbott, 32, both of 125 W. Burke St., Suite 11, Martinsburg, were in Eastern Regional Jail Monday night on two counts of counterfeiting and two counts of conspiracy to counterfeiting, according to court records.

Walker decided Wednesday that "the Grinch that stole Christmas goes to jail. " Appearing before the judge in handcuffs and a green prison uniform, the 66-year-old woman was sentenced to spend three to 23 months in the county prison and another five years on probation for theft and criminal conspiracy to commit access device fraud.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com West Virginia State Police on Thursday were trying to locate a possible witness to Tuesday night's fatal stabbing at the Hedgesville Post Office. Cathy A. Crissy, 43, had gone to the post office to mail letters on Tuesday night. She was found in a pool of blood on the floor of the post office lobby at around 9 p.m. and was taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va, where she was pronounced dead at 11:56 p.m. State police said they were looking for a red Dodge Neon operated by a white male in his mid-20s or early 30s with dark hair.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 93-year-old Martinsburg man died from blunt force trauma to the chest and head, according to final autopsy reports released Tuesday by West Virginia State Police. The autopsy on Delbert Rodgers was performed by Dr. Jack Frost in Morgantown, W.Va., said West Virginia State Police Sgt. Deke Walker. As a result of the chest injuries, Rodgers' sternum was broken, as were several of his ribs, Walker said as he reviewed Frost's report.

Court briefs Court no-show gets seven-day sentence CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man who failed to show up for a court appearance in January was ordered to serve a seven-day sentence Wednesday. Shawn M. Ott, 20, of 261 Birch St., was picked up May 3 on a bench warrant issued by Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge John Walker in January. The warrant was issued after Ott did not appear for sentencing on charges of harassment, criminal mischief, failure to obtain a permit for fishing and fishing without a license.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ? The former executive director of the Berkeley County chapter of the American Red Cross has been accused of stealing more than $14,000 from the organization, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Jonathon A. Jarrell, 42, of 519 West Virginia Ave. in Martinsburg, was arraigned Friday on one felony count of embezzlement, which was filed against him by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.M. Walker, according to court records. Walker said Friday the matter still was under investigation after Magistrate Joan V. Bragg earlier set a $10,000 personal recognizance bond in an arraignment hearing for Jarrell.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- The manager of the 2007 state champion South Berkeley Little League team was arraigned Thursday on 133 counts of fraudulent use of the nonprofit organization's credit card, according to court records. Larry Anthony Custer, 44, of 35 Bryarly Mill Lane in Inwood, W.Va., was in Eastern Regional Jail Thursday night on a $133,000 bond set by Berkeley County Magistrate Harry L. Snow, according to court and jail records. Custer turned himself in Thursday, a week after a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to court officials.
