MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Bunker Hill, W.Va., woman was arraigned Tuesday on five counts of counterfeiting after her landlord told police earlier this month that he received five suspect Travelers Express MoneyGrams totaling $4,100, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Rachelle Lynn Frye, 28, of 41 Sanford Drive, was arraigned by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller, who set bond at $12,500. The landlord told police that Frye asked him to assist her with cashing the checks in December at Citizens National Bank in Martinsburg, telling him she did not have a bank account, according to a complaint filed by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.M. Walker.

Walker Tuesday ordered Corey Allen Kean, a teen charged in the 1993 Halloween night shotgun slaying of his uncle, to be transferred from maximum security to residential status at Alternative Rehabilitation Communities Inc. Walker issued the order with the stipulation that Kean remain "intellectually challenged. " The move means Kean, 18, will be allowed to go out into the community in supervised groups to participate in various social activities and participate in field trips.

If a trooper is not patrolling, that does not mean an officer is not available, said Sgt. Deke Walker. A trooper will be on call during that period, meaning he can respond to an emergency if necessary, Walker said.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County magistrate found probable cause Thursday to send forward an embezzlement charge against the former director of the Berkeley County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Assistant Prosecutor Richard Stephens said the case against Jonathon A. Jarrell of Martinsburg likely would be presented to the grand jury when it convenes in October. Jarrell appeared Thursday before Magistrate Sandra L. Miller for a preliminary hearing. He opted to go on with the hearing although he did not have an attorney.

Marvin L. Redman, 35, died after he was shot once in the chest area, according to West Virginia State Police Sgt. Deke Walker. The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. outside an apartment, he said. Walker said he could not release the name of a suspect in the shooting, who was not in custody by Monday night.

Sgt. Scott E. Paugh was on his way home to Martinsburg from the Charles Town barracks at about 10:50 p.m. when a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder struck his cruiser in the left front corner on Golf Course Road near Martinsburg, state police alleged.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Having twice failed to show up for jury selection, Terrance Williams was contrite Tuesday when he appeared for a juror contempt hearing before Franklin County Judge John R. Walker. "It was complete negligence on my part," Williams told Walker. Court Administrator Neil Burkholder told Walker that Williams did not acknowledge a summons to appear for jury duty in May, nor did he respond to a notice served by the sheriff's office to appear for the July trial term.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two Martinsburg Correctional Center officers have been charged with counterfeiting and conspiracy to counterfeit after allegedly attempting to pay a bill at an outdoor sporting goods store with fake $100 bills, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Brian Lee Sine, 36, of 2051 Harris Way, Apt. 422, in Martinsburg, and Joshua Lee Beck, 22, of 807 West Virginia Ave. in Martinsburg, each were charged with three felony counts of counterfeiting and one felony count of conspiracy to counterfeit, according to warrants filed with the court by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.M. Walker.
