One person was taken to the hospital in an accident near 17314 Virginia Ave., Deputy Kemmerer of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said. The accident happened when a car collided with the back of another car on Virginia Avenue southbound, Kemmerer said. The collision happened when traffic was slowing down due to police activity on the other side of the road. The driver of one of the cars was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Kemmerer said. Traffic was not impeded by the accident.

Traffic is backed up in the 17000 block of Virginia Avenue south of the Interstate 70 and Interstate 81 interchange while rescue workers respond to a hit-and-run accident that was reported at 3:46 p.m. Friday, a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said. The supervisor said at least one injury was reported. Further details were not immediately available.

One person was taken to Meritus Medical Center after a hit-and-run accident that involved four vehicles Friday afternoon in the 17000 block of Virginia Avenue near Hagerstown. Deputy 1st Class Jason Crawford of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said a brown pickup truck with the words “Roofs are Us” slammed into the rear of a vehicle that was stopped in traffic. He said the impact caused a chain-reaction crash that involved two other vehicles that also were stopped.

Hagerstown Police respond to incidents The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents: Sunday • At 2:05 p.m., a traffic stop was made in the 100 block of South Walnut Street. • At 2:24 p.m., trespassing was reported in the first block of East Washington Street. • At 3:49 p.m., police responded to a disorderly conduct report in the first block of Fairground Avenue. • At 5:25 p.m., a property damage accident was reported in the 100 block of East North Avenue.

The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents: Wednesday  At 2:37 p.m., a disorderly conduct incident was reported in the first block of West Antietam Street.  At 4:12 p.m., a property damage accident was reported at Salem Avenue and Church Street.  At 4:59 p.m., a warrant was attempted in the first block of Burhans Boulevard.  At 9:19 p.m., a burglary was reported in the 100 block of Randolph Avenue.  At 10:17 p.m., a disorderly conduct/disturbance was reported in the 500 block of Dual Highway.

With the summer months now in full swing, road maintenance projects, including complete resurfacing, slurry sealing, and tarring and chipping, are ramping up around Washington County. Portions of Downsville Pike (Md. 632) and Virginia Avenue (U.S. 11) - both state-maintained roads - have received extensive work lately, prompting a Cearfoss reader to question through Mail Call why other county roads in need of repair haven't received the same level of attention. “I read here in the paper where they repaved the Downsville Pike and the Virginia Avenue and everything,” the reader said, noting that area roads like Resh, Mount Tabler, Spade, Keysers Ridge and Broadfording Church roads are being tarred and chipped instead.
