Following is a list of Veterans Day observances scheduled for Tuesday in Washington County. 10:30 a.m. -- The annual Veterans Day assembly at Clear Spring High School will be in the auditorium. Organizers are expecting several guests, including U.S. Army Capt. Jake Michael, who recently completed a 15-month tour of Iraq. Also on the program is Lori Sines, a social worker who served in the U.S. Army in the 1980s and 1990s. 11 a.m. -- Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion Auxiliary, will sponsor Veterans Day ceremonies on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse in Hagerstown.

Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and the post's auxiliary will sponsor its annual Veterans Day ceremony honoring all veterans today at 11 a.m. in front of the Washington County Courthouse. This year, veterans of World War II will be specially honored. Speakers will be members of Morris Frock who served in that war. A special musical tribute entitled "Before You Go" will be presented. Military, service and civic groups will be laying wreaths at the courthouse ceremony.

All offices and services of Washington County government, except for County Commuter Transit services, will be closed Wednesday in honor of Veterans Day. Essential public safety services will function normally. Normal county government activities will resume Thursday.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar has announced that areas managed by the Department of the Interior will not charge entrance fees on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11. HAGERSTOWN -- Students at Emma K. Doub School for Integrated Arts and Technology have a little more to think about this Veterans Day. In preparation for the observance, students were asked to involve their families in a schoolwide project. Each student received a red, white and blue flag template to fill out for each veteran or active-duty military person in their family. The flags included the student's name, name of their family member, years they served in the military and where they served.
