Two people were badly burned in a Sunday morning accident west of Boonsboro in which the car they were in caught fire after hitting a fire hydrant, rupturing the fuel tank, Boonsboro Deputy Fire Chief Keith Abrecht said. The man driving the car and the female passenger had severe or third-degree burns, Abrecht said. Both had life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Daniel Faith with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The man was transported via LifeNet helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Faith said.

A tractor-trailer collided with a van on westbound Interstate 70 at the bridge over Interstate-81 near Halfway before noon Thursday, causing a chain-reaction accident involving seven vehicles that sent four people to the hospital and slowed traffic for hours. The accident occurred as traffic slowed on the interstate and the 18-wheeler tried to stop behind an Odyssey Van pulling a trailer with two motorcycles, said Trooper Dave Thompson of the Maryland State Police. “When he tried to stop he lost control,” Thompson said.

A woman who jumped out of a moving vehicle on U.S. 15 near the north side of Thurmont on Sunday night was pronounced dead Monday, according to a Maryland State Police news release. Police did not release the woman's identity or where she was from, but said she was 21 years old. The incident is being investigated by state police in Frederick County and the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, the release said. Troopers were called to southbound U.S. 15, north of Md. 550, around 10:20 p.m. Sunday for a report of a passenger opening the vehicle's door and exiting while the vehicle was moving, police said.

No injuries were reported after a vehicle hit a tree on Crystal Falls Drive on Monday night, according to a Washington County 911 supervisor. The accident in the 9500 block of Crystal Falls Drive was reported at 8:41 p.m. Monday, the 911 supervisor said. That area is north of Interstate 70. - Julie E. Greene

A garage was damaged by a blaze after a vehicle next to it caught fire Monday afternoon in the 18000 block of Lappans Road, according to a Washington County 911 supervisor. The fire did not reach a house on the property, the supervisor said. The 3:20 p.m. fire was handled by Williamsport Volunteer Fire & Emergency Medical Services.

Two men and a 17-year-old boy died Friday after the pickup truck they were riding in crashed into a tree west of Hedgesville, Berkeley County Sheriff Kenneth Lemaster said. A woman and her two young boys, who also were riding in the truck, were taken to hospitals after the crash, which occurred at about 5:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Conservation Drive, deputies said. The crash site is more than two miles from W.Va. 9 off Camp Frame Road. The names of the deceased, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were not immediately released pending notification of family members.

A crash on the U.S. 340 bridge Sunday afternoon that involved seven vehicles was caused by a rear-end collision on the span that connects Maryland and Virginia, a Maryland State Police spokesman said. The rear-end collision started a chain reaction crash of vehicles, one of which had a trailer, according to the spokesman and another official. The crash was reported at 1:32 p.m. The bridge was reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m., officials said. No serious injuries were reported from the accident.

Three people were taken to the hospital after a chain-reaction traffic accident Wednesday afternoon on Franklin Street near the Hagerstown Police Station. The accident occurred at about 1:35 p.m., when a Ford Ranger struck the rear of a small Honda passenger vehicle that was stopped in traffic, according to police Sgt. Eric Knode. The impact pushed the Honda forward, causing it to strike the back of a Mercury station wagon that also was stopped on Franklin Street, Knode said.

A Knoxville man was killed Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Md. 67, Maryland State Police said in a news release. Roger D. Latham Jr., 43, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to the release. The accident was reported to the Washington County 911 Center at 11:12 p.m., police said. Latham was driving south on Md. 67, also known as Rohrersville Road, north of the intersection with U.S. 340 when his vehicle missed a curve, went off the roadway and struck a culvert, according to the release.

Both eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at Exit 32 (U.S. 40) were closed Saturday at approximately 5 p.m. due to a vehicle fire, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation's website. No further information was available.
