National Pike Days begins Friday in Clear Spring with the encampment of the wagon train at Plumb Grove, the historical home built in 1831 and restored by the Clear Spring District Historical Association. Plumb Grove will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. The wagon train encampment is free and open to the public. There will be food available for purchase and music. On Saturday, the wagon train departs at 9 a.m. The wagon train stops at Wilson's Store and the bridge on U.S. 40 above Conococheague Creek. The next stop is at the Wacohu Grange at Huyetts Crossroads at approximately noon. Plant sale The annual National Pike Days plant sale by Clear Spring Garden Club will be Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. in the lawn area of St. John's UCC. Indoor yard sale St. John's United Church of Christ in Clear Spring will host an indoor yard sale and bake sale during National Pike Days Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.

The National Honor Society is the leader among organizations and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. On Oct. 19, the following high school students were inducted into Broadfording Christian Academy's Colossians 3:17 chapter of the NHS: Rebecca Adams was recognized for her leadership role on the girls' varsity volleyball team at BCA and also for her two mission trips to Guatemala in Central America, where she ministered to underprivileged children, and Galveston, Texas, where she helped with disaster relief efforts.

VBS planned A Vacation Bible school will be held at Washington Square United Methodist Church Saturday, Aug. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The one-day event will be held in conjunction with its sister church, St. Matthew's. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. The event will include a Bible lesson, crafts, music and recreation with the theme "Wildwood Forest. " Classes will be for those ages prekindergarten through sixth grade.

Those ages 12 to 18 will learn how to take images found in old comic books or magazines, put them behind glass and turn them into magnets. You can also paint the glass. The library will provide all of the supplies.

Vernon Drive, Keedysville, are available for rental. A small meeting room will accommodate 10 to 20 people in a comfortable setting. The large meeting room will hold 200 people or 127 for a banquet. Both rooms rent for $25 per hour. The kitchen is available for an additional $25. A contract and deposit are required.
