SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg's Citizens' Police Advisory Committee is in the early stages of planning a safety day, member Tom Chiarizia said Tuesday. The event could include safety demonstrations, children's activities, food and giveaways, he said. The committee is aiming to hold it in the early summer, he said. CPAC welcomes additional town participation, Chiarizia said. Its next meeting is Thursday at 7 p.m in Town Hall.

Keedysville Town Council KEEDYSVILLE - Keedysville Town Council members voted Monday to reaffirm their wish to keep the town library in Keedysville. Council also agree to donate land near the town hall to allow for expansion of the present library or to build a larger building if necessary. Assistant Mayor Matt Hull said he has concerns that Washington County officials will decide to close what has been called "a reading station" at Town Hall which is used by Keedysville residents.

SHARPSBURG - The Sharpsburg Town Council takes seriously its ordinance against bicycle riding on town sidewalks, Mayor George Kesler said Monday night. A deputy from the Washington County Sheriff's Department last week confiscated the bicycle of a child who refused to obey the rule even after repeated verbal warnings, Kesler said. It costs $15 to retrieve a seized bicycle from Town Hall, and adults must accompany children, he said.

Mayor, two council seats up for grabs in November election CLEAR SPRING -- The Town of Clear Spring is accepting applications from residents who want to run for mayor or one of the two Town Council seats that will be up for grabs during the Nov. 2 election. Town Clerk Juanita Grimm said interested applicants may apply until Oct. 5 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Mayor Paul D. Hose Jr. said during a Town Council meeting Monday that he wasn't certain whether he would run for another two-year term.
