A $27.7 billion spending plan passed Thursday by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives calls for 10 percent cuts to human services, flat funding for state-supported colleges and universities, and slight increases for K-12 education. The Pennsylvania Senate may vote as early as Friday on the budget, which affects the 2012-13 fiscal year starting Sunday. The House passed the plan 120-81 after three hours of debate. In interviews at the Capitol, Republican lawmakers from Franklin County, Pa., said they support the budget drafted by their party's leadership.

We would appreciate it if you left a message on Mail Call.” — Boonsboro “I am always outraged by violence, whether it be against men or women. You can help do something about it by contributing to CASA, which offers programs and shelter for the abused. They can be reached at 301-739-4990. I personally have seen what changes they can make in a person’s life — including saving lives.”   — Williamsport “I haven’t heard any liberals mention how Obama stuck his nose in Boeing wanting to build a plant in North Carolina.

A Greencastle, Pa., Democrat who mounted a write-in campaign for 90th House District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives appears to have been unsuccessful. Sheldon Schwartz, 75, received approximately 170 write-in votes from Democrats in the April 24 primary election, according to results from the Franklin County (Pa.) Elections Board. WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ronald Eberly's name is not to appear on May 16 Republican primary ballots as a 90th District candidate for the state House of Representatives, a senior Commonwealth Court judge ruled Tuesday. Without Eberly, the field narrows to Todd Rock of Mont Alto, Pa., and incumbent Patrick E. Fleagle. Eberly, who did not return calls made to his house and cell phone Tuesday, would have to appeal the decision very quickly, Judge Jim Flaherty said at a March 21 hearing.
