Infant Madison Elaine Fogle died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center. She was born Oct. 20, 2011, and was the daughter of Bryan Howard Moore and Stephanie Suzanne Fogle of Thurmont, Md. Authorities were investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who was struck by a pickup truck Monday evening in the driveway of a home in Thurmont, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said. The boy, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, according to a sheriff's office news release. Deputies said the boy was struck at about 8 p.m., when a 32-year-old man was backing a Ford pickup out of a driveway in the 15000 block of Kelbaugh Road, the release says.

Mr. James Richard "Jim" Ridenour, 72, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. Born Sept. 23, 1938 in Thurmont, he was a son of the late Ray Howard and Grace Eileen Crump Ridenour. Surviving is a sister, Marion E. Ridenour of Thurmont; sister-in-law, Virginia Ridenour of Thurmont; and several uncles, aunts, cousins, great-nieces and a great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Ridenour. Mr. Ridenour loved country music and he was a member of the Washington County Human Development Council Day Program in Hagerstown.

Mr. Harry R. “Juney” Fogle Jr., 64, of Smithsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 20, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. Mr. Fogle was the husband of Susan Jane Shockey Fogle. He was born Oct. 21, 1946, in Thurmont, a son of Edna Marie Wolf Fogle of Thurmont and the late Harry Ross Fogle. Mr. Fogle enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, hunting and going to gun raffles. He was a member of  the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, and loved making slippery potpie and soups.

Mrs. Ethel Corinne Burrier, 87, of Frederick, Md., passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife of the late Gilmer R. Burrier, who passed away in 2001. Born Sept. 24, 1923, in Utica, Md., she was the daughter of the late William Baltzell Baer and Lola Jane Martz Baer. Ethel was a member of the Glade United Church of Christ in Walkersville. She lived on Sunday's Lane Farm for nearly 70 years before moving to Homewood at Crumland Farms in 2003.

Northern Calvert jumped out to a 9-1 lead in its first-round game but needed to hold on for a 13-9 victory over South Caroline on Saturday during the opening day of the Maryland 11-12 State tournament at the Maugansville Little League complex. Northern Calvert jumped to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning on the strength of Zach Thompson's three-run home run. Mac McGrath added two-run blast in the second to move to the eight-run advantage. South Caroline bounced back with five runs in their half of the second, highlighted by Jonathan Buchanan's two-run homer.

Mr. H. Leroy Hovermale, 80, of Thurmont, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at his residence. Born Nov. 5, 1930, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was a son of the late Harry and Agnes Dawson Hovermale. He was the ex-husband of Peggy Hovermale of Solomon's Island. Mr. Hovermale served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War. He was owner and operator of Frederick County Rentals Inc. for the past 30 years. He was a life member and past commander of AMVETS Post No. 7, Thurmont; life member of South Mountain Rod & Gun Club; and a member of Woodsboro American Legion.

Md. 550 (Sabillasville Road) has now been closed for a month in Thurmont between Eylers Valley Flint Road and Kelbaugh Road after a mudslide that occurred in mid-April. However, Geoff McCammon of the Maryland State Highway Administration in Frederick, Md., says that work crews are making progress. "Last week we began installing drain pipes to help with some of the water on the slope," he said. "We hope to be finished installing the pipes this week. " McCammon said that after the drainage systems are put in place and the slope dries, they can evaluate whether or not to open the road to at least one lane.

Md. 550, closed in both directions between U.S. 15 and Eylers Valley Flint Road in Frederick County, Md., as a result of a mudslide on Sunday, remained closed Tuesday, according to road officials. Jim Brown, the resident maintenance engineer for the State Highway Administration in Frederick, said he got a call around 10 a.m. Sunday about a mudslide on the highway. “I sent a crew to start cleaning up the highway Sunday morning, and while we were cleaning up the bank broke loose,” he said.

SEPT. 10, 1917-APRIL 8, 2011 Mrs. Eileen F. Stull, 93, of Walkersville, Md., went to be with the Lord Friday, April 8, 2011, at her home. She was the wife Paul S. Stull Sr., her husband of 66 years who preceded her in death Sept. 13, 2003. Born Sept. 10, 1917, in Burkittsville, Md., she was the third daughter of Aaron and Estie Guyton Rice. In 1937, Eileen and Paul moved to the new farm house and they began farming and had a chick hatchery business in the 1940s.
