COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Under different circumstances, Maryland might have been bitterly disappointed to end its season with a lopsided defeat. The Terrapins displayed no shame Saturday when they walked off court following an 89-70 loss to Memphis in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The setback did nothing to detract from what they had accomplished to that point, and each player knew the situation could have been much worse. After all, their final game didn't take place in the NIT. Maryland seemed destined to miss the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in five years before mounting a late surge that netted a No. 10 seed in the West Regional.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Using the tip in a pep talk by former Terrapins football star LaMont Jordan, Maryland's players converged at midcourt before the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game Sunday and started to scuff the league logo. "He said every time he went into New York he always went to the 50-yard line and marked his territory," senior guard Kristi Toliver said. "So that's what we were kind of doing in North Carolina. After knocking off four-time defending champion North Carolina and rival Duke on consecutive days, Tobacco Road - and the ACC - belong to the fourth-ranked Terrapins.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Greivis Vasquez did something no Maryland player had done since 1987, and the Terrapins pulled off an upset that was almost as remarkable. Vasquez had a career-high 35 points and 11 rebounds and 10 assists - Maryland's first triple-double in 22 years - and the Terrapins rallied from a 16-point deficit to shock No. 3 North Carolina 88-85 in overtime Saturday, ending the Tar Heels' 10-game winning streak. "I just have no words to describe this feeling right now," Vasquez said.

ATLANTA -- Greivis Vasquez scored 19 points and Maryland held off Georgia Tech at the buzzer for its eighth straight victory over the Yellow Jackets, 57-56 on Sunday night. Georgia Tech had two chances at the win after Eric Hayes missed the first free throw of a 1-and-1 with 16.7 seconds left. Georgia Tech's Lewis Clinch missed on a drive in the lane, but teammate Iman Shumpert chased down the long rebound in the corner and managed to get off a 3-pointer. It was a little long, bouncing high off the rim as the horn sounded.

NOFOLK, Va. (AP) -- DeMauria Liles scored 20 points and No. 15 Maryland held Old Dominion without a field goal for the final four minutes in a 74-65 victory on Sunday. Shadasia Green's layup gave the Lady Monarchs a 63-62 lead with 3:56 to play, but Old Dominion, which led by as many as eight points in the first half, made just two free throws the rest of the way. The Lady Monarchs (5-4), who shot 34 percent from the floor (24 of 71), made just 9 of 14 foul shots to Maryland's 26 on 39 attempts and were outrebounded 53-43.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) -- Graham Zusi has been a member of Maryland's two NCAA men's soccer championship teams in the past four years. The latest one was the sweetest. Zusi's second-half goal gave second-seeded Maryland a 1-0 victory over 13th-seeded North Carolina in the NCAA College Cup championship game Sunday. Maryland (23-3-0) took the title in 2005 when Zusi was a freshman who contributed off the bench. This time, Zusi was one of the Terps' senior leaders. In the semifinals, the attacking midfielder notched the game's only goal in extra time to beat St. John's.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Maryland trailed at halftime against Michigan when coach Gary Williams scolded his players for their lack of effort. Williams was addressing everyone, but Greivis Vasquez -- the unquestioned team leader -- took it personally. "I was really listening to what he was saying because I thought he was talking to me," the junior guard said. "I've got to lead the team. If those guys don't want to go hard, I'm going to go hard so they can follow my lead. " With Vasquez showing the way, the Terrapins pulled out a 75-70 victory Wednesday night in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland tried for a blackout on Saturday. Meanwhile, Florida State got the knockout. The Seminoles used speed and ball control to thoroughly dominate the No. 23 Terrapins in a 37-3 rout that turned Maryland from favorite to forlorn in the Atlantic Division half of the chase for a berth in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. "We didn't play very well obviously," said Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen. "I'm very disappointed in the game we played, especially when we had a lot at stake.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Under normal circumstances, Maryland's football game on Saturday would be tough enough. The No. 22 Terrapins are playing Florida State -- the team, the tradition and the reputation all wrapped in one garnet-colored package. But the circumstances aren't normal. Maryland and Florida State will be meeting at Byrd Stadium in a critical game in the Atlantic Coast Conference's championship sweepstakes. First prize is the chance to represent the Atlantic Division in the league's championship game.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Edwin Williams is one of the Maryland 30. There is nothing sinister about this group. They are the 30 seniors who will be playing their last home game as Terrapins on Satuday night at Byrd Stadium. It's big, but only a secondary backdrop. That's because No. 22 Maryland will be playing for a chance to sew up the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division title when it hosts Florida State on Saturday night. "It will be tremendous to know that the last game we played at home left a great mark," said Williams, Maryland's center who was named ACC offensive lineman of the week.
