Police are investigating a reported robbery and assault of a taxi driver Friday morning in Hagerstown. Officers responded at about 2:20 a.m., according to a Hagerstown Police Department news release. The driver told police that he picked up three males in their late teens at Hump Road and took them to the area of Main and Buena Vista avenues, the release said. One of the males then put a pillow case over the driver's head while the other two assaulted the driver, causing minor injuries, according to the release.

A taxi driver was injured and the vehicle he was driving was stolen late Thursday in an armed robbery, Hagerstown Police said in a news release. Police responded to the incident in the area of Bryan Place and West Church Street at 11:52 p.m., the release said. The unidentified driver from Turner Taxi told police that a man wearing a dark blue hooded sweat shirt displayed a knife and demanded money from him. After a brief struggle, the driver received cuts to his hand, according to the release.

One person was taken to the hospital after an accident involving a taxi and a pickup truck at the intersection of Burhans Boulevard and Chase Street south of the railroad underpass Thursday morning, Mike Alderton of the Hagerstown Police Department said. The 7 a.m. accident occurred when a Chevrolet Silverado heading south on Burhans Boulevard crossed the middle of the road and collided with the front of a Chevrolet Cavalier taxi from C&R Sedan that was headed north, Alderton said.

A Pennsylvania man has been charged with assault and other counts after he allegedly cut a taxi driver on the neck Wednesday during an attempted robbery in Hagerstown, city police said. Joshua Matthew Bean, 21, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and attempted theft, Sgt. John Lehman said. Police Chief Arthur Smith said Bean was arrested at the Union Rescue Mission on Prospect Street shortly after the incident. “He was staying at the rescue mission,” Smith said.

By BRENDAN KIRBY Staff Writer A Turner's Taxi driver who disappeared in July has been found in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., Hagerstown City Police said Sunday. Kenneth Wayne Bradford, 29, appears to be safe, but the circumstances that led him from a taxi cab the night of July 23 to a Florida beach remain as much a mystery as ever, authorities said. Sgt. Steven Bussard said the Jacksonville Beach (Fla.) Police Department informed Hagerstown authorities on Sunday that Bradford was found.

Platt, 40, known to truckers as "Pooh Bear," provides free roadside assistance to motorists, free rides in his 1986 Ford Ranger pickup for truckers who need to go into town or to a hospital, and a meal for anyone in need who comes to the Travel Centers of America truck stop at Pa. 16 and Interstate 81. Platt said he drives truck drivers to Wal-Mart, drug stores, Food Lion, Family Dollar or wherever they need to go. Some tip him, others don't, and either is fine with him. A truck driver himself for 20 years, Platt says "every American should spend a week inside a big rig with a trucker to see the stress he has. It's a hard life.

Two 16-year-old boys were charged Friday after allegedly robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint on Crest View Road, just outside of Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said. The teens each were charged with armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault and theft, police said. Police said the robbery took place on Crest View Road at 8:48 p.m. Police allege one of the boys pointed a small loaded revolver at taxi driver William Herold and demanded money. Herold's girlfriend, Tabatha Cook, and her 12-year-old brother were in the car at the time.

Taxi driver assaulted HALFWAY - Police are looking for two individuals after a Miller Transportation taxi driver was choked and struck twice in the face during a robbery Saturday morning on Maple Leaf Court, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The robbery was reported at 4:05 a.m., according to the sheriff's office. The taxi driver was approached near 33 E. Franklin St. in Hagerstown by a man and woman who wanted to go to Maple Leaf Court in Halfway Manor, police said.

A fire in a detached garage on Bower Avenue kept firefighters busy for several hours Friday morning. Halfway and Williamsport firefighters were called to the Andrews' residence at 10610 Bower Ave. at 8:20 a.m. for reports of trash on fire inside the garage. Before they arrived, a taxi driver radioed to authorities that the garage also was on fire. Deputy Halfway Fire Chief Doug DeHaven said the owner of the home put some hot embers from his pipe into a trash container, which then caught on fire.

HAGERSTOWN -- A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night at the intersection of Linwood Road and Noland Drive, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Department press release. The robbery was reported at 11:52 p.m., deputies said. The driver of a Miller Transportation cab told deputies he was robbed by three males ages 15 to 18 wearing dark clothing, deputies said. He said one of them put a gun against his head and requested his money, deputies said. After the driver gave the youths an undetermined amount of money, the three fled on foot toward Noland Village, deputies said.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department is seeking assistance from the public in finding a man who robbed a taxi cab driver near Martin L. "Marty" L. Snook Memorial Park on June 30. The cab driver picked up a man near Cleveland Avenue before 5 a.m. who asked to be driven to Williamsport, deputies said. While en route, the man changed his mind and asked to be taken to Halfway Boulevard, deputies said. The driver then was told to stop near the park, but when he told the man how much the fare was, the man put a sharp object to the driver's neck and demanded money, deputies said.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department on Friday was investigating a possible strong-arm carjacking Thursday night in Maugansville. A driver for Miller Transportation reported that two men stole a white Chevrolet Lumina belonging to the company, according to a sheriff's department news release. The driver, Daniel Howard Brown, 44, of Hagerstown, told authorities that he picked up a man in the 13000 block of Maugansville Road and took him to an address on Donald Street, deputies said.

A taxi driver cut his hand Wednesday morning as he tried to fight off a man who had a knife and was using it to demand the driver's money, the Hagerstown Police Department said in a news release. At about 2 a.m., a Miller's Transportation driver picked up a man in the area of Liberty Street, police said. While the cabbie was driving, the man took out a folding pocket knife and demanded the driver's money, the release states. A struggle ensued between the men, during which the driver's hand was cut, police said.
