Thumbs up to outgoing Washington County Commissioners Kristin B. Aleshire, James F. Kercheval and William J. Wivell. Their final meeting on the board was Tuesday, and we thank them for their service to the county in what often is a thankless job. Thumbs up to John Bloyer, who retired this week as register of wills for Washington County after more than 18 years in the position. Bloyer’s job involved meeting people at one of the worst times in their lives and he showed patience and respect while carrying out his duties.

Chelsea Eells, president of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts Student Government, said she wasn't certain whether the nickname was inspired by "The Phantom of the Opera," but theater students lobbied hard for the designation by chanting, "Phantoms," "Phantoms," in the hallways between classes.
