For Pam Anderson, the 2011 Franklin County United Way campaign chairwoman, there is “no place like home.” Decked out in ruby heels and a tiara reminiscent of Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” Anderson led the celebration of the United Way of Franklin County reaching its $750,000 campaign goal. United Way Executive Director Amy Hicks said money continued to trickle in after the campaign closed a month ago. “We were keeping our fingers crossed. We're so excited. It's wonderful,” Hicks said Wednsday at the United Way celebration at the Wood Center Stage Theatre at the Capitol Theatre Center.

Washington County Sheriff's Department investigators were searching Tuesday for a man who robbed the Susquehanna Bank at 13418 Marsh Pike earlier in the day. The robber asked a bank teller for money but did not display a weapon or threaten violence, according to Investigator Dave Sanders, who said the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Four employees were inside the bank during the robbery, which was reported at 11:39 a.m., but there were no customers inside.

Susquehanna Bancshares, parent company of Susquehanna Bank, will match employee donations to four relief organizations that are working on recovery efforts in Japan: Save the Children, American Red Cross, World Vision and the International Medical Corps. Susquehanna selected the four charities for its Japan-relief campaign based on their reputation for providing immediate and long-term disaster relief, current efforts in response to the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami, and responsible stewardship of donated dollars.

Beverly Ann Murray, 60, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. Born Aug. 10, 1951, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Harry L. Cosgrove of Hagerstown and the late Mary (Leasure) Cosgrove. Beverly was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School. She was employed as a teller with Susquehanna Bank, Hagerstown. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hagerstown.

Grants to teachers in Franklin County public schools will be awarded to encourage the innovative use of technology in kindergarten through 12th grade. The Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation, an affiliate of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce, is offering the Innovative Technology Challenge Grants to educators in all six school districts. The deadline for applications is June 28. Applicants will be evaluated based on three key criteria: innovation, value added to curriculum and advanced academics.

Sunday, July 3, 2011 JUNIOR LEGION CUMBERLAND, Md. — After going 4-0 in bracket play, the Williamsport Nationals defeated Woodsboro Post 282 12-4 on Sunday in the championship game of the Potomac Junior Legion Summer Classic baseball tournament. Zane Schreiber had two doubles and three RBIs and Justin Lewis had three hits and two RBIs in the championship game for the Nationals. Also in the victory, Tyler Byers had three RBIs, Austin Stone and Charles Cvijanovich each had two hits and Scott Bennett and Josh Moats each had an RBI. Byers also was the winning pitcher, scattering eight hits while striking out six. International Association of Administrative Professionals The International Association of Administrative Professionals, or IAAP, recently announced that Donnell Householder of Cumberland, Md., earned certified administrative professional certification. The professional certification requires individuals to satisfy education and/or experience requirements and pass a comprehensive exam. Householder has been an administrative professional for 10 years and is an active member of the Hager Chapter of IAAP.
