Two people were taken to Meritus Medical Center after being in an accident while riding a motorcycle at the intersection of Leitersburg and Marsh pikes Wednesday afternoon, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. Police responded to the accident at 2:20 p.m. The road was clear for traffic by 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, the supervisor said. Maryland State Police are handling the accident, the supervisor said.

One person was flown to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening at the intersection of Grade Road and Williamsport Pike near Falling Waters, a Berkeley County Emergency Services supervisor said. The supervisor said the accident was reported at 6:10 p.m. A second person was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, according to the supervisor. West Virginia State Police said Saturday night that further details were unavailable.

Traffic is backed up in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 north of Hagerstown while rescue workers respond to a single-vehicle accident, a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said. The supervisor said the accident was reported at about 12:30 p.m., near Exit 8 to Maugansville when a vehicle drove over a guardrail. Two people were injured in the accident, the supervisor said. Further details were not immediately available.

Traffic was backed up on Interstate 81 near the Maryland-West Virginia state line after a tractor-trailer crashed Saturday at about 9:47 a.m. just south of the Potomac River bridge, a Berkeley County Emergency Services supervisor said. The supervisor said the accident, which occurred in the southbound lanes, caused traffic to back up into Maryland. Authorities detoured traffic onto U.S. 11, the supervisor said. No one was injured in the accident. The scene was cleared at 2:33 p.m.

Interstate 70 near Exit 5 (Md. 615) east of Hancock has reopened after tractor-trailer caught fire Monday morning, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. The fire was reported at 8:41 a.m., the supervisor said. All eastbound lanes of I-70 near the scene had been closed for several hours, but reopened at about 1:50 p.m. The tractor-trailer was carrying plastic materials, the supervisor said.

Traffic was snarled in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near the Marlowe-Falling Waters exit Tuesday morning while workers repaired a jersey wall that was struck by a tractor-trailer at about 4:30 a.m., a Berkeley County Emergency Services supervisor said. The supervisor said about 350 feet of the wall was damaged. Southbound I-81 was closed for about two hours until the tractor-trailer was towed from the scene. One southbound lane remained closed while the wall was being repaired.

One person was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., following an accident near Harpers Ferry on Wednesday morning, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. Three vehicles were involved in the accident on the U.S. 340 bridge across the Potomac River, the supervisor said. Units from Washington County and Jefferson County were on the scene, according to the supervisor. At 10:15 a.m., one lane of the two-lane bridge was closed, as police were awaiting a tow truck for one of the vehicles, the supervisor said.

A truck caught fire Wednesday afternoon on eastbound Interstate 70, just east of the Greencastle Pike exit (Exit 24) near Williamsport, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services reported. The supervisor said nobody was hurt. The supervisor said the fire was put out at 12:49 p.m. By shortly after 1 p.m., the highway was clear and traffic was moving freely. The Washington County Sheriff's Department reported that I-70 eastbound was briefly shut down so the fire could be put out. The Clear Spring Fire Department and the Williamsport Fire Department were both on the scene, according to the supervisor.

A child who suffered a head injury from playing football at Marty Snook Park on Monday afternoon was taken to Meritus Medical Center, according to the 911 supervisor with Washington County Emergency Services. A Maryland State Police helicopter was called to pick up the child, but emergency officials weren't sure whether the helicopter would make it to the park due to bad weather, the 911 supervisor said. After several minutes, the call for the helicopter was canceled, the supervisor said.

Authorities are expected to reopen Dual Highway soon after they responded to the 1600 block of the road for a smoke condition in a house, according to a Washington County 911 supervisor. It turned out the problem was a furnace malfunction, the supervisor said. There was no fire in the house and no one was hurt, the supervisor said. The intersection of Dual Highway and Edgewood Drive was shut down to allow crews access to the home, the supervisor said about 2 p.m. The call for the investigation went out at 1:42 p.m.
