Statements made to police by a State Line, Pa., man charged in the slaying of a Hagerstown woman will be admissible during trial under a judge's opinion issued last month. Jeffrey E. Miles Sr., 48, is charged with criminal homicide in the April 2010 stabbing death of 29-year-old Kristy Dawn Hoke. Her body was found in a wooded area in the southern edge of the Borough of Waynesboro. Defense attorneys argued for suppression of statements made when police first came in contact with Miles, who was threatening suicide on an Interstate 81 bridge.

Dylan Layman kept his eyes opened, Cullan Ganley showed some heart and the Leopards presented a body of work at the end to come away with a hard-fought 10-6 victory over the Patriots. “We played a partial game,” Smithsburg coach Joe Dietrich said. “We ran off and on, but came up big in the end. The talent showed through.” Layman showed his talent in goal while Ganley scored four times — the last coming on a critical goal with 1:16 remaining — to move Smithsburg to 5-1 on the season.
