gregs@herald-mail.com HAGERSTOWN - Finding a man posing as a telephone technician may be the key to solving an office supply store burglary that netted thieves about $100,000 in merchandise earlier this week, police said Friday. At about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, a driver saw a U-Haul truck leaving the Staples store at 1631 Wesel Blvd. Just after 6 a.m. the store manager discovered the store had been burglarized. Less than two hours later, the Washington County Sheriff's Department received a call about a stolen U-Haul truck matching the description of the one seen leaving the store.

Bonnie Shockey's little black dress is chocolate brown. "When I wear black, I look as white as Casper the ghost," said Shockey, 58, of Antrim Township, Pa. "So my little black dress is brown. " Shockey isn't the only one who would rather do without the so-called fashion staple. "It's really a jacket and pants set with a tuxedo stripe down the side," said Patti Anderson, 53, of Smithsburg, describing what she wears in lieu of the little black dress. "Does that count?" A little black dress is a sometimes formal, sometimes casual frock called "little" because it's not a formal, floor-length gown.

Solar energy is no longer some futuristic, pie-in-the-sky idea in Washington County. Concerned about rising energy costs, the environmental threats associated with traditional methods of electric generation and what kind of world is going to be left to their children, business owners in the county have invested tens of thousands of dollars to set up their own solar-power systems. Solar panels now stretch across roofs and atop columns that track the sun as it moves across the sky. At a Staples distribution center along Hopewell Road in Hagerstown, more than 11,000 solar panels soak up the energy from the sun and generate electricity.
