The public is invited to a free outdoor showing of "Charlotte's Web" Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the Hagerstown Community College Alumni Amphitheater. The event is sponsored by HCC's Student Government Association and the Washington County Recreation Department. Stadium seating is available, but attendees are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on the grass. The HCC Alumni Association will sell concessions.

Washington County's' first multiplex with stadium seating is open and showing five movies on six screens. cont. from front page The state-of-the-art R/C Theatres multiplex at Valley Mall opened Friday night with "Battlefield Earth" showing on two screens. Opening weekend "was pretty good," Mark Poor, theater assistant manager, said. Movies will be playing on all 16 of the theater's screens by mid-June. About two screens will open each week for the next few weeks.

The Hagerstown Community College Student Government Association is sponsoring three free outdoor movie events this summer. "Barnyard" will be shown June 8, "The Love Bug" will be shown July 13 and "Charlotte's Web" will be shown Aug. 24. All movies will be shown in HCC's Alumni Amphitheater and begin at 8:30 p.m. Stadium seating is available, but attendees are welcome to bring a blanket to spread out on the grass. The Alumni Association will sell concessions during the movie.

The NicoloWhimsey Show will perform at Hagerstown Community College's sixth annual Lollipopalooza on Saturday at the Alumni Amphitheater. The free event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the NicoloWhimsey Show is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The NicoloWhimsey Show aims to entertain and educate students of all ages, presenting an exciting show that combines juggling, music, poetry, storytelling, character-acting and audience participation....

A 16-screen movie theater complex with stadium seating to open in the Valley Mall by next fall will be the largest in the Washington County market, according to an announcement Monday by Crown American , the Johnstown, Pa., company that bought the mall in November. --cont from front page -- R/C Theatres will operate the multi-screen, 53,376-square-foot complex that will feature digital sound, curved screens and rocking seats. "It will be the absolute latest in technology," said J. Wayne Anderson, chief operating officer of R/C Theatres.

Spring Mills High School's planned football stadium will seat more than 5,000 people, qualifying it to host state playoff games, according to Berkeley County school officials. With the county's fourth high school set to open in August 2013, the Berkeley County Board of Education Thursday night awarded two contracts totaling $2,942,000 to construct the football field and track around it and to install the stadium's bleachers. Dustin Construction of Ijamsville, Md., was awarded a $1,784,000 general trades contract and GT Grandstands of Plant City, Fla., was awarded a $1,158,000 contract for the bleachers, according to the school district.
