Due to a source's error, Brandi Hambleton, an eighth-grader at Springfield Middle School, was omitted from the honor roll list that appeared in the Sunday, March 29, Herald-Mail. The Herald-Mail apologizes for the omission.

scottb@herald-mail.com Springfield Middle School has been removed from the list of Maryland schools on "alert" status for its Maryland School Assessment scores after the Washington County Board of Education appealed the designation. The change comes after information about one student was corrected, said Patricia Abernethy, county deputy schools superintendent. On June 30, Springfield and Boonsboro middle schools and Bester Elementary School were put in the "Schools on Alert" category because they did not meet Adequate Yearly Progress goals in 2004.

Springfield Middle School staff members Ann Methana, Courtney Plume and Julie Van Metre got into the spirit of the Home 4 the Holidays adoption campaign and filled a giant stocking to capacity. An additional bag had to be used for extra goodies they collected. When asked what motivated them to participate in the adoption effort, Methana looked at Plume and VanMetre and said, "We are probably three of the biggest animal lovers in the school. " All of the women spoke of their love for their own pets.
