The Alsatia Club awarded this year's Robert and Hilda Worthington Memorial Scholarship to Reginald Lushbaugh Jr., a South Hagerstown High School graduate. Lushbaugh is the son of Reginald and Lori Lushbaugh of Hagerstown. He plans to pursue a degree in business at Hagerstown Community College and Shepherd University. The $500 Worthington Scholarship was established by Hilda Worthington in memory of her husband, Robert, and is administered by the Alsatia Club for children and grandchildren of Alsatia members.

Gelwicks-Tosten Lindsay Ranee Gelwicks and James Wellington Tosten announce their engagement. Miss Gelwicks is the daughter of Robert and Sonya Gelwicks of Hagerstown, formerly of Thurmont, Md. She is a 2003 graduate of Catoctin High School. She is the operations manager for her family business, G&G Drywall Services Inc., of Hagerstown. Mr. Tosten is the son of Linda Pierre of Hagerstown. He attended South Hagerstown High School, and obtained his GED in 2001. He is lead drywall technician for G&G Drywall Services Inc. The wedding is planned for today.

Katie Murray-Starliper and Nick Mollo were married Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Christ's Reformed Church. The bride is the daughter of Craig and Linda Murray of Hagerstown. She is a 1998 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Hagerstown Community College. She is employed as a referral specialist at Hagerstown Heart P.A. The bridegroom is the son of Sharon Mollo of Hagerstown and the late Arthur Mollo. He is a 1996 graduate of Williamsport High School and Career Studies Center and attended Hagerstown Community College.

The bride is the daughter of Scott and Jackie Frey of Hagerstown. The bridegroom is the son of Bill and Ginger Bigelow of Boonsboro. The bride is a 2001 graduate of Boonsboro High School, received a bachelor's degree in occupational science from Ithaca College in 2005 and a master's degree in occupational therapy in August 2006.

It is a big week for football and school spirit at South Hagerstown High School. The homecoming game is Friday against the Smithsburg Leopards. The South High Rebels are a perfect 5-0. It is the best start for a South High football team since quarterback Phil Petry led the Rebels to an undefeated 9-0 season 50 years ago in 1962. Game time Friday is at 7 p.m. There will be a homecoming bonfire Thursday at 9 p.m., following the South High soccer game. Saturday evening will be South high's homecoming dance.

The Washington County Board of Education will present the 36th annual Showcase of Marching Bands Tuesday, Oct. 9, beginning at 7 p.m. at School Stadium on the campus of South Hagerstown High School. The event will feature the following bands: Hancock Middle-Senior High School Panthers Band (2012 host band), Clear Spring High School Blazers Band, Boonsboro High School Warriors Band, North Hagerstown High School Hubs Band, Smithsburg High School Leopards Band, South Hagerstown High School Rebels Band and Williamsport High School Blue Band.

SN Adam M. Hutchens , son of Teresa Hutchens of Hagerstown, and Gary Hutchens of Frederick, Md., is serving aboard the USS Ramage, a guided missile destroyer stationed at Norfolk, Va. Hutchens graduated from basic training in October 2001 and completed advanced training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill., graduating third in his class in visual communications. Hutchens completed a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf assigned to the USS Ramage.
