Sheena Marie Bricker and Jared Nelson Showe were married June 28, 2008, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. The bride is the daughter of Abe and Julie Bricker of Hagerstown. She is a 2000 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and a 2004 graduate of Shepherd University. She is employed as an administrative assistant with Manitowoc Crane Group in Shady Grove, Pa. The bridegroom is the son of Richard and Kendra Showe of Hagerstown. He is a 2002 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and is employed with Lehigh-Phoenix in Hagerstown.

A story on page A3 of Thursday's Herald-Mail about the Arbor Day celebration in Hagerstown did not mention that students from Pangborn Elementary School, North Hagerstown High School and South Hagerstown High School participated in the event. The Herald-Mail apologizes for the oversight.

The Washington County Board of Education will present the 35th annual Showcase of Marching Bands Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at School Stadium at South Hagerstown High School. The following bands will be featured: Clear Spring High School Blazer Band (host band) Boonsboro High School Warrior Band Hancock High School Panther Band North Hagerstown High School Hub Band Smithsburg High School Leopard Band South Hagerstown High School Rebel Band Williamsport High School Blue Band Tickets cost $4 in advance or $5 at the gate.

The Washington County delegation to the Maryland General Assembly is holding its annual public meeting Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at South Hagerstown High School's auditorium. As the 2009 General Assembly session approaches, people are invited to talk about issues that are on their minds. If the weather is bad that day, the public meeting will be canceled and won't be rescheduled.

Thomas Andrew Port, son of Scott and Melanie Port of Hagerstown, graduated from South Hagerstown High School on July 31, after only three years of high school. After completing his junior year, Thomas enrolled in summer school and successfully completed his 12th-grade English requirement, earning his diploma a year early. Thomas is working full time to save money and plans to attend college in January.

The Public Service Commission of Maryland will host a series of meetings, including one in Hagerstown, to gather public comment on Allegheny Power's proposed plan for billing customers when an electric generation cap is lifted in 2008. The meeting in Hagerstown will be Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School. The cap will expire Dec. 31, 2008.

Adeline Cumpata, 16, will be a junior at North Hagerstown High School. Hannah Tussing, 14, is a home-schooler living in Hagerstown. Emily Nelson, 13, will be a freshman at St. Maria Goretti High School. She is a music fanatic. Shoval Resnick (not pictured) is 17 and will be a senior at South Hagerstown High School this fall. She is an avid reader with a preference for fantasy, though no book is unappealing.

Denise Kendall and Stanley Bryan were married on Sept. 13, 2008, at Marty Snook Park in Hagerstown. The bride is the daughter of Harold and June Wastler. She is a graduate of South Hagerstown High School and Career Studies Center. She is employed by Scott's Lawn Service. The bridegroom is the son of the late Earl and Sarah Bryan and is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He is employed by Certainteed. They live in Hagerstown.

Air Force Airman Juliette Hawkins , daughter of Jacqueline Stribling of Hagerstown, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Hawkins is a 2005 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. Army Pvt. Christina E. Carpenter , daughter of David L. and Joyce L. Carpenter of Hagerstown, has graduated from the Power-Generation Equipment Repairer Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md. Carpenter is a 2005 graduate of Washington County Technical High School, Hagerstown.
