Due to a scheduling conflict at Smithsburg High School, the Washington County Track and Field Championships will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Williamsport. The change of venue cancels the previous plan to postpone the meet until Saturday morning and keeping it at Smithsburg.

SALISBURY, Md. - Mike Marfut, son of Ed and Laura Marfut of Hagerstown, recently performed with Salisbury University's Jazz Brazz Band in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Marfut, a freshman who is majoring in ancient African studies, is on the track and field team and a recipient of the president's scholarship. He is a 2006 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

Air Force Airman Matthew T. Colvin, son of Sharon Guidice of Smithsburg, and Thomas Colvin of Hagerstown, graduated in November 2001 from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Colvin is a 1999 graduate of Smithsburg High School. He is in the linguistics program in Monterey, Calif.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Michael S. Crunkleton , son of Steven and Sarah Crunkleton of Cascade, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Crunkleton is a 2006 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

Milton Creagh, a nationally recognized motivational speaker, will be making a presentation to Smithsburg High School students Monday, Nov. 9. He is tentatively scheduled for two presentations, at 11 a.m. and 2:05 p.m.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Richard A. Blake, son of Charles E. and Susan E. Blake of Crystal Falls Drive, Smithsburg, re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years after 11 years of military service. Blake, a quality assurance inspector, is assigned to the 436th Airlift Wing, Dover Air Force Base, Del. His wife, Sharon, is the daughter of Brinton and Jo Ellen Keeseman of Clear Spring. He is a 1993 graduate of Smithsburg High School. Navy Seaman Recruit Nichole M. McCardell, daughter of Valerie F. Sipes of Myersville, Md., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. McCardell is a 2003 graduate of Smithsburg High School.
