Traffic is backed up in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 north of Hagerstown while rescue workers respond to a single-vehicle accident, a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said. The supervisor said the accident was reported at about 12:30 p.m., near Exit 8 to Maugansville when a vehicle drove over a guardrail. Two people were injured in the accident, the supervisor said. Further details were not immediately available.

A Greencastle, Pa., teenager who was found in a wrecked sport utility vehicle along Catholic Church Road Sunday morning might have been trapped in the vehicle for six to eight hours before she was discovered, Washington County Deputy 1st Class Tracey Peyton said Monday. The 17-year-old driver, identified Sunday by Sheriff Doug Mullendore as Malory Morgan Weller, remained in critical condition at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Breezewood woman seriously injured in crash on Pa. 475 McCONNELLSBURG,Pa. - A Breezewood, Pa., woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident Friday morning on Pa. 475 in Dublin Township, Pennsylvania State Police said. Amy Sue Berkstresser, 31, of 128 Berkstresser Drive, suffered major injuries when the 2005 Ford Escape that she was driving south on Pa. 475 left the roadway and struck a tree at about 11:35 a.m., according to a state police news release. Troopers said Monday morning that they didn't know the name of the hospital where Berkstresser was taken to be treated for her injuries.

One person was taken to a hospital, and the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed Friday afternoon as a result of a single-vehicle accident. The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. when a vehicle overturned near mile-marker 23, according to a Franklin County Emergency Communications dispatcher. An officer with the West End Fire and Rescue Co. said that the single occupant of the vehicle was taken to an area hospital, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

A Williamsport woman died Friday afternoon at Meritus Medical Center from injuries she sustained in a single-vehicle accident on Sterling Road at Bower Avenue, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. A vehicle driven by Martha J. Reid, 62, of 17217 Sterling Road, went off the roadway and struck a tree, Lt. Thomas Newton said. He said he wasn't sure whether a medical condition caused her death. “They're probably going to do an autopsy,” Newton said. Deputies were called at noon for a report of a single-vehicle accident at the site, which is just west of Martin L. “Marty” Snook Memorial Park, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The slow lane of U.S. 340 east, just inside the Washington County line near mile marker 2, was closed for almost three hours Sunday due to a single-vehicle accident, authorities said. One person was taken to Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said. The Franklin County, Pa., coroner was called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident Thursday at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Rowe Road. An older man died of medical issues before the crash at the entrance to the Volvo Construction plant, according to Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner. The man was pronounced dead at 2:40 p.m., Conner said. Shippensburg, Pa., police are investigating the accident. At 4 p.m., Conner said he would not release the driver's name because his family had not yet been notified.

A driver was airlifted to a Virginia hospital Wednesday following a single-vehicle accident near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputies say a blue Plymouth Neon was found resting in a field east of the intersection of Novak Drive and Airport Road. The driver, identified as Matthew Miller, no age or address given, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the release said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Police are at the scene of a single-vehicle accident that was reported at 8:10 a.m. Monday in the 9700 block of Sharpsburg Pike (Md. 65), a Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said. The dispatcher said early reports indicated one person had minor injuries. The 9700 block of Sharpsburg Pike is south of the Food Lion supermarket.
