BOYS BASKETBALL CLEAR SPRING - Scott Keeney hit one free throw with 2 seconds left to lift Clear Spring to a 42-41 MVAL Antietam victory over Brunswick on Tuesday. After going 0-for-8 as a team, Keeney broke a 41-41 tie by hitting his second shot, giving the Blazers (2-1, 1-0) the win. Keeney, who scored 20 points to lead Clear Spring, was fouled after Brunswick missed a shot with 24 seconds remaining. He was iced twice by Brunswick timeouts before converting the second shot.

Monday, May 13, 2013 PREP BASEBALL Allegany 6, Hancock 3 CUMBERLAND, Md. - Allegany scored five runs in the first two innings and made that cushion hold up in a win over Hancock in the Maryland Class 1A West Region West Section semifinals. Darren Lashley and Chad Sipe each drove in a run for the Panthers, who finished the season 10-10. North hosts 3A game North Hagerstown will meet Linganore today in a Maryland Class 3A West Region game at 4:30. On Monday, Linganore defeated Thomas Johnson 1-0 in 12 innings, a game that was resumed from Friday.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY PARKTON, Md. -- Smithsburg senior David Wilson won the elite boys race Saturday at the Bull Run Invitational to remain undefeated this season. Wilson covered the challenging 3-mile Maryland state championship course at Hereford High School in 16 minutes, 29 seconds. Elkton's Luke Arbuckle -- who won Maryland 2A state titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 last spring -- was the runner-up in 16:40. The Smithsburg boys finished 15th out of 17 teams. In the elite girls race, Stephanie Breen placed 63rd in 22:43 for the Smithsburg girls, who finished 14th out of 16 teams.

BOYS BASKETBALL GERMANTOWN, Md. - Curtis Crews scored 34 points - making 12 of 14 free-throw attempts - and added 14 rebounds and three steals, leading Frederick to a 77-51 victory over Seneca Valley on Tuesday night. "That's his season high, but every game he's played pretty well," Cadets coach Derek Shackleford said. "He had 30 one game, 28 one game, so he's averaging about 26 a game. He just plays hard, he's a hard-working kid. " Bradley Wiley had 14 points, eight assists and five steals for Frederick (4-1)

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 BOYS BASKETBALL WASHINGTON - Saint James pulled off an upset in the Mid-Atlantic Conference on Tuesday night with a stunning 60-58 victory over Sidwell Friends. Coming off a disappointing loss Friday at Flint Hill, the Saints regrouped to stun the Quakers, who had owned a victory over Gonzaga earlier this year and played touted Mount St. Joseph to within four points. “We should never have lost to Flint Hill, but we challenged the kids to work hard and refocused,” said Saint James coach Paul Easton.

WASHINGTON - Quarterback Kyle Fields completed 18 of 28 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns to lead Mercersburg to a 47-6 win Saturday over Sidwell Friends. Heath Vink made his presence known in more than one way for Mercersburg (4-1). He caught four passes for 103 yards and a score, returned a punt 35 yards for another score and intercepted two passes. Matt Kranchick had eight receptions for 135 yards and another score. Eddie Brown rushed for 116 yards on 15 carries, and backfield mate Trevor Baumgartner rushed 18 times for 72 yards and two TDs. PREP CROSS COUNTRY Hubs' McCarty wins Harford Co. Invintational Kari McCarty clocked the fifth-fastest time ever at the Harford County Invitational, winning the girl's race in 19:19.

ST. JAMES - The St. James Saints could not stop the offense of the Sidwell Friends Quakers in the first half. As a result, the Quakers scored all of their points early in a 33-0 win Saturday afternoon in a Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference football game. "We needed to get on track this week after getting beat by Urbana last week," Sidwell Friends coach John Simon said. "We put some new stuff in this week and it worked real good. We moved a couple of guys around and that really helped.
