Hagerstown police respond to calls The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following calls over the weekend, Sgt. Curt Wood said: On Saturday: At 12:59 p.m., a CD player, a cell phone and a cordless drill were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of South Locust Street. At 1:40 p.m., domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of Manor Drive. At 4:24 p.m., burglary and damage to property were reported in the 100 block of Broadway.

shappell@herald-mail.com All charges against a man charged with assault in connection with firing a shotgun during an altercation with his brother in January were forwarded to Washington County Circuit Court during a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Washington County District Judge Ralph H. France II found probable cause to send on to Circuit Court 12 counts against Mack L. Kennan, 25, who has addresses in Knoxville and Harpers Ferry, W.Va., listed in court documents. Kennan was charged with four counts each of first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the Jan. 15 incident, court records say. During the hearing, Washington County Sheriff's Department Deputy Jon J. Molineaux said Kennan fought with Wilbur E. Kennan inside 18906A Sandy Hook Road and kicked his brother in the face during the incident.

Shotgun, building supplies are missing The following crimes were reported to the Washington County Sheriff's Department: A .410-gauge shotgun was reported stolen Friday at about 11:30 p.m. from a residence in the 14000 block of Spickler Road east of Clear Spring, said Washington County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Mark Knight. He said the shotgun was valued at $400. More than $1,100 worth of building supplies were reported stolen at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from a job site at 11856 Boyd Road off U.S. 40 near Clear Spring, Knight said.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A police standoff with a man bearing a shotgun who refused to leave his home ended peacefully Thursday night when the man turned himself in to officers. An arrest warrant was issued charging William Ralph Hanna Sr., 43, of 317 Hess Ave., Martinsburg, with a felony count of wanton endangerment with a firearm. Martinsburg Police Department Cpl. John Sherman and other officers first were dispatched to Hanna's Hess Avenue home just before 5:30 p.m. for a reported domestic battery.

gregs@herald-mail.com Statements made to an investigator by a Fairplay man charged with setting his home on fire in June in an attempt to kill his wife will be allowed at the man's trial, a judge ruled Tuesday. Eddie Preston Holmes, 48, of 7825A Sharpsburg Pike, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, malicious destruction of property and reckless endangerment in the June 27 fire. Deputy State Fire Marshal Edward Ernst said at a July District Court hearing that Shelly Holmes was asleep when she awoke to flames in her home.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police charged a Hagerstown man with armed robbery Wednesday after receiving tips that he was involved in a robbery at a Berkeley County 7-Eleven store. Dale Anthony Shoop, 32, of Mount Tabor Road, was charged with one felony count of armed robbery. The robbery happened on Sunday, May 4, at the 7-Eleven on Berkeley Station Road. The robber, who wore a ski mask and wielded a gun, took $26 from a Berkeley County 7-Eleven store.

charlestown@herald-mail.com A Harpers Ferry-area man was charged with shooting his wife in the leg early Monday as she tried to escape through a window of her Blue Ridge Mountain mobile home, police said. Scott Allen Marshall, 46, of Route 1, Box 970-D, Harpers Ferry, fled from the scene after Roberta Marshall was shot, but surrendered to Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies later in the day, Cpl. Dave Colbert said. Scott Marshall was charged with malicious assault, wanton endangerment and prohibited person - possess firearm, according to Jefferson County Magistrate Court records.

An 18-year-old Burtonsville, Md., man was given the most serious juvenile punishment possible Wednesday after he admitted to charges that he fired a sawed-off shotgun at three people last December when he was 17. Jovon Brian Lancaster admitted Wednesday to three counts of assault in Washington County Circuit Court. Judge Donald E. Beachley committed Lancaster to the Department of Juvenile Justice for institutional placement, the heaviest punishment at the juvenile level. Assistant State's Attorney Steve Kessell requested that Lancaster be placed in a program at the Charles H. Hickey School, which is a secured facility in Baltimore County.
