ORRSTOWN, Pa. - An Orrstown man who was the subject of a search by Pennsylvania State Police last week waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court. John F. Miller, 30, of 9214 Iron Bridge Road, is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person in the Sept. 19 incident at his home. He is scheduled for mandatory arraignment on Nov. 8, according to court records. Miller's bail was lowered from $100,000 to $20,000 Tuesday, Magisterial District Judge Larry Pentz said.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - An Adams County man has been charged with the shooting death of his wife Thursday night at their Mount Joy Township home, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Gettysburg. Todd Michael Rynard, 39, of Hood Drive, was charged with criminal homicide and possessing instruments of a crime in the shotgun killing of 44-year-old Gwen Josey Rynard, police said. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Mark Beauchat and jailed without bond in Adams County Prison, police said.

ORRSTOWN, Pa. - An Orrstown man who was the subject of a search by Pennsylvania State Police Tuesday morning was in Franklin County Prison charged with threatening one man with a shotgun and assaulting a woman. John F. Miller, 30, of 9214 Iron Bridge Road, is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person. All the charges are misdemeanors, according to court records. Police said the charges stemmed from an incident at his Letterkenny Township home that occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Miller got into an argument with Matthew Alan Johnson, 22, of Port Orange, Fla., and told Johnson he was going to get a gun and shoot him, police said.

HAGERSTOWN A 17-year-old Hancock boy got a lesson on hunting and nature Wednesday after he admitted in Washington County juvenile court that he shot a mother black bear in January, which caused the deaths of her three infant cubs. The boy admitted to one count of killing a black bear during a closed season. He originally was charged with four counts - one for the sow he shot and three for her cubs - all found dead Jan. 26 in their den in the Woodmont Natural Resource Management Area east of Sidling Hill and west of Hancock.

Frederick man hurt fleeing fire FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick man was injured trying to escape from his burning home Thursday night. The home at 8106 Broadview Drive in Frederick caught fire about 8:30 p.m. due to an accidental electrical malfunction in the basement, the Maryland State Fire Marshal said. The fire caused $200,000 in structural damage and $75,000 to the contents. Homeowner Edward Hallock suffered cuts to both of his forearms trying to escape, the fire marshal said.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police closed down a section of West Burke Street and surrounded a large apartment building Thursday after an older woman inside fired several shots from a shotgun, according to officers with the Martinsburg Police Department. The woman, Alice Sajovic, eventually agreed to turn herself in after speaking with police, including a phone conversation with Martinsburg Police Department Chief Ted Anderson. An arrest warrant charging her was issued Thursday night.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Hamilton Township man charged with shooting another man last month with a shotgun waived his preliminary arraignment Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court. Joshua Webb, 20, of 611 Park Circle, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of simple assault, according to the criminal complaint. martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The man charged Thursday with wearing a "Scream" mask while robbing a store at gunpoint was charged Friday in connection with another robbery in which the robber wielded a shotgun, according to records filed in Berkeley County Magistrate Court. John Christopher "Chris" Galloway, 22, of 1075 Hyslip Ford Road in Bunker Hill, W.Va., now faces two felony counts of armed robbery. Both robberies happened at a store named in court records as both Cunningham's Market and State Line Market, at 12715 Winchester Avenue in Bunker Hill.
