ORRSTOWN, Pa. - An Orrstown man who was the subject of a search by Pennsylvania State Police last week waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court. John F. Miller, 30, of 9214 Iron Bridge Road, is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person in the Sept. 19 incident at his home. He is scheduled for mandatory arraignment on Nov. 8, according to court records. Miller's bail was lowered from $100,000 to $20,000 Tuesday, Magisterial District Judge Larry Pentz said.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The man charged Thursday with wearing a "Scream" mask while robbing a store at gunpoint was charged Friday in connection with another robbery in which the robber wielded a shotgun, according to records filed in Berkeley County Magistrate Court. John Christopher "Chris" Galloway, 22, of 1075 Hyslip Ford Road in Bunker Hill, W.Va., now faces two felony counts of armed robbery. Both robberies happened at a store named in court records as both Cunningham's Market and State Line Market, at 12715 Winchester Avenue in Bunker Hill.

The parents of a 6-year-old girl who was accidentally shot to death by her 8-year-old brother last year pleaded guilty in Washington County District Court Wednesday to allowing their children access to firearms. Patricia Mae Yost, 26, and Alan Frederick Yost, 27, both of 12072 National Pike, faced the misdemeanor charge as a result of the Nov. 29, 2001, death of their daughter. Cassey Yost died when a shotgun held by her brother, Austin, discharged, striking her in the head at the family's home, Maryland State Police said.

martinsburg@herald-mail.com MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police charged a Hagerstown man with armed robbery Wednesday after receiving tips that he was involved in a robbery at a Berkeley County 7-Eleven store. Dale Anthony Shoop, 32, of Mount Tabor Road, was charged with one felony count of armed robbery. The robbery happened on Sunday, May 4, at the 7-Eleven on Berkeley Station Road. The robber, who wore a ski mask and wielded a gun, took $26 from a Berkeley County 7-Eleven store.

A woman was shot in the hand with a 12-gauge shotgun in a Saturday night incident that appeared to be accidental, a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman said Sunday night. Police were not releasing the woman’s name. Police responded to 215 Alexander St. around 9:50 p.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call of shots fired inside a residence, according to a news release issued Sunday morning. Alexander Street is in Hagerstown’s West End, between Winter Street and West Side Avenue.

Hagerstown police are seeking information about suspects from a 3:34 a.m. burglary at 73 Madison Ave. in which a shotgun and knife were displayed. Police are searching for Richard William Nicewarner, 29, of Hagerstown, on charges of first-degree burglary, theft and second-degree assault. They said he carried a shotgun during the robbery. The second suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with short, dark hair and unkept facial hair, police said. He is believed to be about 6 foot tall and about 160 pounds, police said.

David William Trumpower told France he didn't want an attorney or a preliminary hearing. When told he could get a public defender if he couldn't afford a private attorney, Trumpower said, "I think I'll pass. " Assistant Washington County State's Attorney Joe Michael informed France that Trumpower had violated two court protection orders that he stay away from his estranged wife.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- After a jury in Texas decides whether convicted killer Paul Devoe will be sentenced to death or to life in prison, the former handyman will be closer to returning to Franklin County, Pa. "It would be our intent to bring him back, no matter what his sentence is in Texas," Franklin County Assistant District Attorney Angela Krom said. Devoe, 46, is accused of killing Betty Jane Dehart, 81, in her State Line, Pa., home in August 2007. Prosecutors allege he stole Dehart's 2006 Hyundai and $8 as he fled Texas for New York.

An arrest warrant was issued charging William Ralph Hanna Sr., 43, of 317 Hess Ave., Martinsburg, with a felony count of wanton endangerment with a firearm. Martinsburg Police Department Cpl. John Sherman and other officers first were dispatched to Hanna's Hess Avenue home just before 5:30 p.m. for a reported domestic battery.

HAGERSTOWN - A man and his grandson face dozens of criminal charges, including armed robbery and false imprisonment, in an October armed robbery at an M&T Bank on Dual Highway during which 17 people in the bank were threatened with a shotgun. David Wilbert Shanton Sr., 53, of Winchester, Va., faces more than 150 charges, and his grandson, Kevin Andre Shanton, 17, also of Winchester, was charged as an adult with almost 100 criminal charges. During the afternoon of Oct. 22, 2007, two masked males robbed the bank at 930 Dual Highway.
