Two occupants of a car that hit a tree in the the 20400 block of Benevola Church Road in Boonsboro were flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Friday night, according to the First Hose Company of Boonsboro and the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The accident was reported at 7:48 p.m., according to a sheriff's office press release. A 1991 Honda CRX was traveling westbound on Benevola Church Road when the operator lost control and a vehicle struck a tree, the release said.

A 51-year-old woman was flown to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon after her vehicle overturned on U.S. 340 near Keep Tryst Road, according to the Maryland State Police. The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, police said. The eastbound lanes of U.S. 340 were closed for 90 minutes after the accident was reported at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Monday morning after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing West Main Street in Waynesboro, according to Waynesboro Police and Franklin County Emergency Services. The teenager was taken to Meritus Medical Center, and then to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she was in “guarded” condition, according to an email from Waynesboro Police Chief James H. Sourbier IV. Police said they are investigating the accident, which occurred at the Fairview Avenue intersection around 7:15 a.m. Monday.

A 17-year-old girl was in the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries and her father was there with a serious hand injury Wednesday, a day after after the sport utility vehicle he was driving overturned multiple times when a tire blew on eastbound Interstate 70, according to Maryland State Police. Christopher Nnabuihe Nwachukwu, 52, of Baltimore, one of seven family members in the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, lost control of the SUV at about 2:38 p.m. near Mapleville Road after the left rear tire blew, state police said in a news release.

A Baltimore woman who was seriously injured in a car accident Friday near the entrance of Greenbrier State Park on U.S. 40 remained in critical condition Sunday night at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Cheron Nicole Leighton, 34, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic, was ejected from the vehicle and flown to the shock trauma center by a Maryland State Police helicopter after the accident at 1:35 p.m., police said. A passenger in Leighton's vehicle, Tiara Shaniece Elliott, 33, was thrown from the vehicle and later died at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, police said.

A Boonsboro woman injured in a crash June 14 near Easton, Md., remained in critical condition Monday evening at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Brigitte Elaine Heller, 51, a Washington County emergency medical services coordinator, was critically injured on U.S. 50 on Maryland's Eastern Shore when the driver of another vehicle fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the median into the path of her Nissan Xterra, Easton police said. Heller's daughter, Brittany Heller, 19, also was injured in the crash, but was discharged from the shock trauma center Sunday, the spokeswoman said.

The medical condition of a Hancock man who was injured earlier this month in a motorcycle accident on U.S. 40 has been upgraded. The condition of Christopher Elwood Hull, 20, was  changed from critical to serious condition at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday. He had been listed in critical condition earlier this week. Hull lost control of a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle on July 6 as he was heading west on U.S. 40 near Beaver Creek Road, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said at the time.

A 19-year-old man who fell down a farm silo Tuesday off Lehmans Mill Road north of Hagerstown remained in serious condition Thursday at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Andrew Horst plunged down the silo at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and was trapped for about three hours until rescue workers placed him in a basket and hoisted him through an opening at the top of the structure. Horst was flown from the scene to the shock trauma center, where he has been listed in serious condition since Tuesday, hospital officials said.

A 63-year-old Fortuna, Calif., man was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Wednesday afternoon after his car collided with a Mack truck on southbound Interstate 81 near Williamsport, according to Maryland State Police. The 3:25 p.m. crash tied up traffic in the area for hours during rush hour for the helicopter to land and to allow police to investigate the accident. For unknown reasons, Ronald Plotnick lost control of his 2013 Hyundai and struck a guardrail in the median, police said in a news release.

People walking on the C&O Canal towpath Sunday found a man who was injured in a fall at Maryland Heights, said Capt. Arnold Martin of the Potomac Valley Volunteer Fire Co. The man, whose name was not released, was alert and conscious when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Martin said. He was flown by helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Martin said. The incident was reported at 3:52 p.m., a Washington County 911 dispatcher said. It was not known how far the man fell, Martin said.

A Falling Waters, W.Va., man who was seriously injured in a crash involving multiple motorcycles on Interstate 70 Saturday afternoon in the Indian Springs area was still being treated at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said. Mark D. Stephens was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at the hospital, the spokeswoman said. According to Maryland State Police, a 2008 Harley-Davidson operated by Matthew L. Adams, 42, of Martinsburg, W.Va., slowed down and was struck by Mark D. Stephens' motorcycle from behind.

A Hagerstown man was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after being struck by a freight train Saturday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Jimmy E. Lewis, 30, address unavailable, had internal injuries in the incident, which happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. on the CSX track in the area of Hopewell Road and Interstate 81, Deputy 1st Class Bryan Teets said. “They said he was just lying across the tracks,” Teets said of what he was told by members of the train's crew.
