Civil war classes at Shepherd College SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd College Department of History announces the establishment of a new concentration, Civil War and 19th-Century America. The concentration will be a block of specialized courses in the history major. Included will be seminars and lectures on topics such as Civil War America, the Reconstruction Era, Introduction to African-American history, the Old South and Soldiers and American Society 1861-65.

Shepherd sweeps Ohio Valley WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VIENNA, W.Va. - Makia Staves scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead five Shepherd College scorers in double figures in a 93-58 victory over Ohio Valley on Thursday. Shepherd (16-4, 12-1) shot 54 percent for the game and got 44 points out of its frontcourt players. Ashana Cowans scored 16 points while Cassie Murray added 14. Shepherd men fall By BOB PARASILITI / Staff Writer SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - When the Shepherd College basketball team decides to play offense, it can hang with the best of them. Unfortunately for the Rams, they make their decision until 33 1/2 minutes into the game against one of the worst in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. For 80 percent of the game, Shepherd was colder than the catch of the day, and about as dead. By the time the Rams warmed up, it was much too late the step out of the deep freeze in what became a 74-67 loss on Monday at the Butcher Center.

Shepherd College women win, men lose WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Shepherd College overcame a four-point halftime deficit to rally past Bluefield State 69-54 on Thursday in West Virginia Conference play. Cassie Murray scored a game-high 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Shepherd (14-4, 10-1). Makia Staves scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds. Shepherd College clock tower awaits repairs By DAVE McMILLION / Staff Writer, Charles Town SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - A clock tower on the campus of Shepherd College is decaying, and college officials have closed the historic building and cordoned off the grounds outside to protect people from injury in case it falls. A spokeswoman for the college said she is not sure how the damaged area on McMurran Hall was detected, but college employees were moved out of the building last week.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The NBA's Washington Wizards are on the verge of giving up Shepherd College as their preseason training camp in favor of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The Wizards have not made an official announcement. However, Joe Browning, the sports information director at UNC Wilmington, said the team and the school have a verbal agreement for the Wizards to practice there the first two weeks of October. The regular season begins a few weeks later.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Leslie Wolfe broke her scoring slump with 17 points to help the Shepherd College women's basketball team tie a school record with its sixth straight win on Saturday in a 77-53 West Virginia Conference win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Shepherd (10-5, 7-1) matched the school record for consecutive wins, which was set in 1986-87 and 1990-91. Shepherd has won eight of its last nine games. The Rams took control of the game early. starting when Chapman hit a 12-footer at the 12:35 mark for a 15-13 advantage.
