Ralph Eugene Weagley, 79, of Hagerstown, Md., died early Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. Born April 25, 1932, in Shady Grove, Pa., he was the son of the late George Cleveland “GC” and Emma Pauline (Mowen) Weagley. He was the husband of 55 years to Elta Madelyn (Blood) Weagley of Hagerstown, whom he married July 23, 1956. Ralph was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, in the Class of 1952. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force, where he served during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

By LISA GRAYBEAL Staff Writer, Chambersburg SHADY GROVE, Pa. - British-based Hanson PLC, parent company of Grove Worldwide, is offering to sell the hydraulic crane and aerial work platform manufacturer for a reported $665 million. Hanson PLC spokeswoman Patty DeFelice said Tuesday the company has hired the U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs as the company's adviser in the sale of Grove. "It's a good point in time to sell the company," DeFelice said. "I think what Hanson is trying to do is get into building materials.

Grove lays off 80 By RICHARD F. BELISLE / Staff Writer SHADY GROVE, Pa. - Approximately 80 hourly and salaried production and support employees at Grove Worldwide were laid off Friday in the third major cutback in as many months at the giant crane maker. Company CEO Jeffrey D. Bust said in prepared remarks that the latest round of layoffs "are absolutely essential elements in our continuing efforts to improve pour business and secure a viable future for Grove and its employees.

Grove sale will add to tax till GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Antrim Township and Greencastle/Antrim School District officials said Friday that while they expect some extra cash from transfer taxes from the expected sale of Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove, they are not planning any big purchases soon. Grove, which has plants worldwide, announced that a Texas investment company signed an agreement to buy the cranemaker for $605 million. The deal is expected to close in about three months, officials said.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com SHADY GROVE, Pa. - A Mercersburg, Pa., man who worked at Grove-Manitowoc Crane Group for 37 years died Saturday when he fell from a crane being tested at the plant. Dale E. Heefner, 58, of 6015 Charlestown Road was pronounced dead at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital at 10:46 a.m., according to Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner. He said an autopsy was performed Sunday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa., and the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Robert Allen Britsch, 63, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family, on Feb. 16, 2012, after a yearlong battle with lung and brain cancer.  Born June 8, 1948, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Robert Beryl Britsch and the late Marianne (Ward) and David Sheeley.  He and his wife of 35 years, Ellen (Mulcahy) Britsch, were married June 5, 1976. They moved to their current residence in 1985. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Shannon (Britsch)

SEPT. 30, 1930-FEB. 6, 2011 GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Mrs. Betty Catherine (Peterson) Kinsey, 80, of 1378 Milnor Road, Greencastle, Pa., died at 6:52 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at York (Pa.) Hospital. Her death was the result of an automobile accident on Pa. 16 near Shady Grove, Pa.   Born Sept. 30, 1930, in Ben Bush, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ray William and Catherine Agnes (Myers) Peterson. Mrs. Kinsey graduated with the 1948 class of North Hagerstown High School.

Grove and his widow, Cora, are well-known in the region and will be visible on several more buildings after Cora Grove handed out $3.1 million in gifts to 14 nonprofit organizations Monday. The total of the gifts could reach $3.5 million if three of the organizations - Caledonia Theatre Co., The Capitol Theatre Center Foundation and the Cumberland Valley School of Music - raise additional funds to meet matching challenges set by Grove.

SHADY GROVE, Pa. - Grove Worldwide's chief financial officer said Thursday his company's future is undamaged by being placed on CreditWatch by Standard and Poor's. Grove's debt as of Dec. 31 was $482 million, according to Standard and Poor's.
