chambersburg@herald-mail.com A former Fannett-Metal High School teacher will be going to jail after pleading guilty Wednesday in Franklin County Court to charges that he had sexual contact with three female students. William Bradley Palm, 24, formerly of Shippensburg, Pa., pleaded guilty before Judge John R. Walker to three charges of corruption of minors, according to court records. The guilty plea requires him to spend time in jail, surrender his teaching certificate and not seek or obtain employment where he would be working with minors, court documents said.

All six charges against a Hagerstown man charged with having sexual contact with an 11-year-old girl were forwarded to Washington County Circuit Court following a preliminary hearing Tuesday, court records state. Washington County District Judge R. Noel Spence found probable cause on all charges against Herman A. Gundy, also known as "Biggs," 30, whose last known address is 441 N. Potomac St., Apt. 7, records state. Gundy is charged with second- and third-degree sex offense, sodomy, contributing to the condition of a child, second-degree assault and delivery of drug paraphernalia to a minor, according to records.

A Greene Township, Pa., man has been charged with sexually abusing children over a three-year period, Pennsylvania State Police said. Jason Shawn Carey, 32, of Fayetteville, was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and other sexual offenses, troopers said. Carey is charged with having sexual contact with three preteen children, troopers said. The abuse happened between 2011 and this year at an address in the Fayetteville area, troopers said. Carey was in Franklin County Jail on Friday on $100,000 bond, a jail official said.

Hagerstown City Police were on the lookout for a man who had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl Thursday morning in Doub's Woods Park. "This is being investigated as a crime because of the age difference between the suspect and the victim," said Lt. Gary Spielman. "The sexual contact was apparently consensual. " In Maryland, sexual contact between an adult and a juvenile 14 or younger is a crime, whether consensual or not. Spielman said the girl told police she was walking in the 900 block of South Potomac Street at 8 a.m. when a black man in a silver Ford Tempo pulled up and began a conversation.

A 56-year-old Hedgesville, W.Va., man is accused of sexually abusing and assaulting an 11-year-old girl last month, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Michael Douglas Brown, of 192 Butterfly Lane, was arraigned by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on a total of four felony and misdemeanor counts of sexual abuse and assault, according to court documents. Brown was being held Thursday night at Eastern Regional Jail on an $85,000 bond, according to court and jail records.

A jury in Berkeley County Circuit Court Tuesday found a 49-year-old man guilty of seven felony counts of sexual abuse and sexual assault that stemmed from allegations involving a teenage girl, according to court officials. Melvin George Simms of Martinsburg is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 17, according to Berkeley County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Carmela M. Cesare, who handled the case. The jury's verdict came on the sixth day of the trial, which was presided over by 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Gray Silver III. The alleged sexual contact occurred between 2009 and 2010 when the victim was younger than 15, according to court documents.

The case against a former West Virginia State Police trooper who had been accused of soliciting two teenage girls for sexual relations and nude photos in 2011 has been resolved, Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Pamela Games-Neely's office confirmed Tuesday. John Anthony Donohue, 26, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of providing false information to police, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court documents. Donohue, who was fined $100 and ordered to pay $160.80 in court costs, paid the penalty last month by money order, according to court records.

A Williamsport man accused of sexually molesting a girl over a period of more than a year was being held on $400,000 bond after he waived a bail-review hearing Monday in Washington County District Court. Jason Howard Bartles, 34, of Hastings Drive was charged with 29 counts of sex abuse of a minor and 30 counts of third-degree sex offenses, according to court records. Bartles is also charged with one count of child pornography for making a visual representation of the victim engaged in sexual conduct, the court records said.

W.Va. man gets year in county sexual assault By MARLO BARNHART / Staff Writer A Berkeley Springs, W.Va., man, convicted of second-degree assault in May, was sentenced in Washington County Circuit Court Monday to serve one year in jail. Circuit Judge Frederick Wright also ordered Alan A. Moser, 51, to pay $5,200 in restitution to the victim, according to court records. He was placed on probation for three years. A Washington County Circuit jury deliberated three hours on May 31 after a two-day trial that included testimony from the victim, who said Moser forced her to have sexual intercourse on April 24, 1999, in her Boonsboro home.

A  49-year-old man was sentenced Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court to between 41 and 105 years in prison for sexually abusing and assaulting a teenage girl between 2009 and 2010. Melvin George Simms, who was ordered Monday by 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Gray Silver III to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, was convicted of seven felony counts of sexual abuse and sexual assault at the culmination of a six-day jury trial in October. Silver also ordered Simms to be placed on 30 years of supervised release following incarceration.

A Hagerstown man was ordered Tuesday in Berkeley County Circuit Court to serve prison sentences totaling 13 to 55 years for sexually assaulting a Bunker Hill, W.Va., boy and three physically and mentally disabled males in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Randall Ray Waugh, 53, was sentenced by 23rd Judicial Circuit John C. Yoder after the defendant pleaded guilty to six of the felony counts and no contest to three other felony charges in a plea and sentencing hearing. Each of Waugh's third-degree sexual assault convictions come with a prison sentence of not less than one nor more than five years behind bars, according to the plea agreement.

A Williamsport man faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday in Washington County Circuit Court to charges he sexually abused two girls. Jason Meredith Hitchner, 30, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor and a second-degree sex offense in exchange for six other related offenses being dismissed. Judge Daniel P. Dwyer deferred sentencing and ordered a presentence investigation. The state is asking for a 15-year sentence with the defense free to argue for a lesser sentence, Assistant State's Attorney Brett Wilson said.
