charlestown@herald-mail.com CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Shepherdstown, W.Va., man has been charged with second-degree sexual assault after a woman claimed she was sexually assaulted during a modeling session in a warehouse next to the West Virginia State Police office in Bardane, court records said. David Eric Herson, 44, of 544 Chandler Drive, was arrested and arraigned on the charge Wednesday, according to Jefferson County Magistrate Court records. Herson is free on $10,000 bond.

A girl was being treated at Washington County Hospital late Thursday, the victim of an alleged sexual assault, Washington County Sheriff's deputies said. The girl claimed she was assaulted near Northhaven Trailer Park on Pennsylvania Avenue about 4:30 p.m., police said. The assailant was described as a white man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium build, wearing a red shirt, blue pants and black Nike shoes, police said. The man had brown hair, blue eyes, was clean shaven and wore a black hat with a white baseball logo.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A 40-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting and biting a 14-year-old mentally disabled girl at her home last week was arraigned Tuesday on six felony charges, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Cletus Wayne Stotler, of Inwood, W.Va., is charged with four felony counts of third-degree sexual assault, third-offense domestic battery and taking a controlled substance into Eastern Regional Jail, according to court records. Stotler was in Eastern Regional Jail Tuesday night on a $100,000 bond set by Berkeley County Magistrate W. Randy Smith, according to jail and court records.

By CLYDE FORD Staff Writer, Charles Town CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Jefferson County grand jury indicted former Charles Town Police officer Paul C. Johnson Tuesday for the sexual assault of a woman while he was on duty as a police officer. Johnson, 30, was charged with second-degree sexual assault. On Oct. 6, 1996, the woman and her fiance were driving in Charles Town when they were pulled over, according to court records. The fiance was arrested for driving on a suspended license and obstructing a police officer.

The victim of a sexual assault inside North Hagerstown High School last fall identified her alleged attacker from a photo lineup in 15 seconds, according to testimony Monday at a Washington County Circuit Court hearing in which the defense tried unsuccessfully to suppress that evidence. "That's the man who attacked me," the 14-year-old student told Hagerstown City Police when she saw a photo of Bradley Wayne Rinehart in an array with five other photos. Defense attorney Eric Reed argued the other five photos were too dissimilar to be mistaken for the man the victim had earlier described to police.

Man found not guilty in sexual assault CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Jefferson County jury deliberated for about five minutes Wednesday before finding a Charles Town man not guilty of a first-degree sexual abuse charge. The quick decision by the jury surprised court officials, who scrambled back into the courtroom to take the verdict. Kevin Maurice Dozier, 38, hugged his defense attorney, Keith Wheaton, after the verdict was announced. Dozier was accused of attempting to make a saleswoman perform oral sex then exposing himself and masturbating when she refused as they stood in his driveway on Feb. 17, 1997, according to court records.

Saying she only wanted an admission of guilt, the victim of a workplace sexual assault agreed to a plea agreement Monday of probation before judgment for her assailant. Donald R. Wright Jr., 28, of 118 Elm St., pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree sex offense in Washington County Circuit Court. Assault and false imprisonment charges were dropped in exchange for the plea. Noting that Wright had no criminal record, Circuit Judge Kennedy Boone agreed to the plea agreement and granted probation before judgment.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Evidence of other similar charges in Maryland may be introduced today in the Franklin County jury trial of a Mercersburg, Pa., man charged with sexually assaulting a boy in 2000. David S. Ardinger, 35, of 12211 Buchanan Trail West, was charged by Pennsylvania State Police in February 2002 with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and indecent assault. The jury of six men and six women heard sometimes conflicting testimony from the victim and other prosecution witnesses in the first day of the trial Monday.
