Thursday, March 21, 2013 BOYS LACROSSE BRUNSWICK, Md. - South Hagerstown got its first win in nearly four years Thursday, beating Brunswick 14-6 in an MVAL Antietam contest. The win snapped a 37-game losing streak for the Rebels. Their last victory came on May 7, 2009 - a 5-3 victory over Kennedy in the first round of the Class 3A West playoffs. No other information was available. Bishop O'Connell 15, Saint James 4 ARLINGTON, Va. - Kyle Neale had two goals for Saint James in a loss to Bishop O'Connell.

Tuesday, March 19, 2013 GIRLS BASKETBALL ENOLA, Pa. - Southern Fulton finished its season with an 82-45 loss to Tri-Valley in the PIAA Class A state semifinals on Tuesday night. Macey Hollenshead had 13 points and four assists for the Indians (26-4), while Kayla Wertz had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, Taelor Morton had four assists and Ashley Roman had six rebounds in the loss. Distance became a problem for Paul Easton. He hasn't lost the drive to coach basketball, but his drive to get to where he coached basketball was a little much. Easton resigned as boys basketball coach at Saint James last week following two years of commuting from his home in Herndon, Va. “Making a commute like this takes a toll on you and your family after two years,” Easton said. “It was a tough decision, with the passion for basketball I have, to make. It was more than just about basketball.” The Saints finished 13-14 with a toughened schedule this season following a 17-10 record in Easton's first year after succeeding Mike Brooks.

Saturday, February 23, 2013 BOYS BASKETBALL WASHINGTON - Saint James could not make it three wins in one season over Sidwell Friends, losing to the Quakers 71-55 in the semifinals of the Mid-Atlantic Conference tournament on Saturday. The Saints (13-14) owned a pair of regular-season wins over Sidwell (21-7), but the Quakers caught fire in the second half Saturday and spent plenty of time at the foul line - making 21 of 40 free throws to Saint James' 11 of 17. Nnamdi Enechionyia led the Saints with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 PREP ICE HOCKEY FREDERICK, Md. - Sean Kreps had two goals to lead Washington County past Carroll County in the state semifinals at Skate Frederick. Travis Biggs and Josh Barron had a goal and two assists each, Arizona Zervas had a goal and an assist, Michael DiMercurio and Kyle Omar each had a goal, Drew Brooks and Nate Lieske each had an assist and Jeremy Benda made 14 saves for the North Stars. The Northstars are the two-time defending state champions and will go for a third consecutive title when they play Severna Park in the final on Monday at 5 p.m. at Laurel Ice Gardens.

Monday, February 18, 2013 BOYS BASKETBALL BALTIMORE - The St. Maria Goretti boys basketball team reaped individual awards at the BCL banquet on Monday night. Amrit Rayfield was named BCL Coach of the Year in his fourth year as the Gaels' head coach. Then, 6-foot-8 junior Martin Geben was named Player of the Year. Geben averages more than 16 points and nearly 12 rebounds a game for the Gaels. Guard Tyrus Fleetwood won the BCL's Most Improved Player and was named to the honorable mention team.

Tuscarora led 39-24 at the half and extended the lead in the third quarter outscoring North 20-4. Kenny McCrary had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks and Isaiah Keyes had six points and five rebounds for the Hubs (16-5). Even though they have played quite a few games lately, the Williamsport Wildcats did not show any signs of being worn out on Wednesday night as they toppled the Saint James Saints 50-25 in a Washington County high school girls basketball game. “We played well enough to win,” Williamsport coach Chris Malott said. “It wasn't the smoothest of performances, but this was our fifth game in the last nine days. We were able to win four of those games.” Freshman guard Kate Wade scored a team-high total of 15 points and made three steals for Williamsport (12-7)

Monday, February 11 BOYS BASKETBALL CUMBERLAND, Md. - St. Maria Goretti gained revenge for a November loss to Bishop Walsh on Monday, beating the Spartans 54-39. Martin Geben had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels (20-10), who reached the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Tyrus Fleetwood scored 12 points for Goretti, all in the second half. Bishop Walsh (18-6) trailed only 35-31 after three periods but Goretti clamped down defensively and Fleetwood did most of his scoring damage in the fourth quarter from the foul line.

Thursday, February 7, 2013 GIRLS BASKETBALL Hancock 42, Faith 38 HANCOCK - Alisa Shives had 20 points and six rebounds as Hancock held on for a win over Faith Christian on Thursday. The Panthers (14-5) outscored Faith 17-3 in the third quarter to take a 34-22 lead and held off Faith despite being outscored 16-8 in the final period. Kristen Shoemaker had five steals and Joan Leavy had 14 rebounds for Hancock. Amanda Deneseus had nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Faith.
