Saint James junior midfielder Madison Fahey was all Smithsburg's girls lacrosse team feared she would be on Saturday afternoon. Fahey had seven goals and two assists, including four scores in the Saints' game-opening 7-1 run as Saint James never trailed in an 18-14 victory over the Leopards. “We built off of that. She established the momentum,” said Saints coach Katherine Dyson. “We knew going in that she would be their goal-scorer,” said Smithsburg assistant coach Dave Duvall - filling in as the head coach for Jessica Klinger, who's due to give birth soon.

Throwing only two strikes to the first three batters in the opposing lineup is not a good indication of how things might fare. Saint James starter Ben Holland walked the first three batters in the Mercersburg Academy lineup and each scored in a three-run first inning. Four innings later, players shook hands after Mercersburg had recorded a 16-0 victory over the Saints, who return to action Wednesday at home against Flint Hill. “You can't start a game the way we did and make it competitive,” Saint James coach Mick Kerns said.

Connor Abeles had two goals and an assist, Austin Fahey also had two goals and Kyle Neale and Jacob Thompson had a goal and two assists each to lead Saint James (4-2, 1-0)
