Celebrate the sounds of the season today during the Potomac Walk in the Arts and Entertainment District in downtown Hagerstown. The Saint James School Chorus will be featured from 5:30 to 7 p.m. "We welcome people of all ages to come and hear this performance on Monday evening," said Francine Donachie of Bowman Hospitality. "Anyone who wishes to dine at Bulls & Bears while enjoying the holiday music is welcome to do that as well. As our way of giving back, 5 percent of all sales will be donated to the Saint James Chorus.

o Saint James cancels sporting events SAINT JAMES -- Saint James School will suspend its academic and athletic schedules for several days beginning Friday because of several cases of flu, including two documented cases of H1N1, commonly known as swine flu. The school's infirmary has been open 24 hours a day to care for the boarding students stricken with illness, school nurse Janice McWilliams said Wednesday. Of the school's 231 students, there are 38 cases of flu, she said.

More than 190 alumni, parents and guests attended Saint James School's Blue Jean Ball hosted by the Parents Association on May 15. The fundraiser was the first of the year for the group and was designated to raise money for the continuing efforts to support faculty and students, and to make a significant contribution to the renovations of Kemp Hall by purchasing new furniture for the new student center. More than $55,000 was raised. The evening featured silent and live auctions with more than 115 donated items, including weekend excursions, golf and fishing vacations, sports and concert tickets, paintings, dinner parties, movie tickets, gift certificates and works of art. Guests dined on food catered by Flannery's Tavern On The Square, and beverages by Wantz Distributors and the Airport Inn, while listening to the sounds of The Rhythm Kings.

ST. JAMES -- If it weren't for a moment of clarity, Dave Barr would have spent most of his life with sand between his toes. Upon graduation from Dartmouth College in 1948, Barr had a choice to make -- start his coaching career by moving to paradise or to Washington County and Saint James School. "I met with the headmaster from Saint James and he offered me a job and the chance to be the head football coach," Barr said. "I was also offered a job in Hawaii. I would have only been an assistant there.
