The Associated Builders and Contractors Inc., Cumberland Valley Chapter, held its annual graduation banquet Aug. 15 at Four Points in Hagerstown. This year's guest speakers were Rob Heilig, owner of Heilig's Plumbing, Heating & Electrical in Oakland, Md.; Will Seilhamer, president, J&W Mechanical Contractors, Hagerstown; Dave McCoy, owner, Emmco Mechanical, Bedford, Pa.; and John Barr, owner of Ellsworth Electric in Hagerstown and Chambersburg. This year's graduates included: Carpentry - Brett Brown, D.W. Ogg and Steve Snider, GRC General Contractor.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- The Chambersburg Area Development Corp. said Friday that more jobs are scheduled to come to the region as early as this summer. CADC President Jeffrey Embly said Franklin Metal Services and Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) both plan to expand business in Chambersburg in 2009. Franklin Metal Services proposed to build a 4,000-square-foot facility in Progress Park this summer, Embly said. The company, which specializes in the repair and reconditioning of nondestructive testing equipment, currently leases space in Chambersburg.

SAIC-Frederick Inc. FREDERICK, Md. - For the third year in a row, SAIC-Frederick Inc., the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick, has won a Seal of Approval from the Maryland Work-Life Alliance. The award was presented during a program in Baltimore. The award is given to employers who demonstrate a commitment "to workplace excellence by establishing a workplace culture that allows today's work force to achieve success at work, at home and in the community," according to the Alliance's Web site.

Franklin William Ridenour, 54, of 13517 Elaines Way, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, in Chincoteague, Va. Born Wednesday, Oct. 10, 1956, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Donald W. Ridenour and Joyce Brewer Ridenour of Maugansville, Md. He was a 1974 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He retired after 30 years of service from the City of Hagerstown Fire Department. He was a part-time driver for the Washington County Commuter for 17 years and worked part time for SAIC in Frederick, Md. He was a lifetime member of Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. He was also a member of Salem Reformed Church.

Michael was born May 21, 1960, in Encino, Calif., to Rosemary (Newton) Koch of Louisville, Ky., and John Benjamin Koch of Jeffersonville, Ind., who now reside in Hagerstown, Md. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jodie (Pearce) Koch; son, Michael Patrick Koch Jr.; daughter, Jacqueline Koch; and his precious dog, Bucky.

The bride is the daughter of Larry and Linda Acree of Hagerstown. The bridegroom is the son of Jerome and Helen Carr of Columbia, Md. The bride is a 1997 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, and received a bachelor of science degree in political science from Frostburg State University in 2001. She is employed as a recruitment coordinator at SAIC in Columbia.
