The Washington County Division of Public Works, Capital Projects Engineering Department, said Friday the first in a series of three stream culvert replacement projects on Crystal Falls Drive is scheduled to be completed on or about Tuesday, allowing for the reopening of Crystal Falls Drive near the intersection with Jugtown Road. Also Tuesday, the contractor will begin work to replace the second stream crossing on Crystal Falls Drive immediately north of the intersection with Pondsville Road.

HAGERSTOWN -- The City of Hagerstown provided the following information about a road closure: The City's Wastewater Division will repair a sanitary sewer lateral in the 100 Block of Jonathan Street beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, weather-permitting. The work will require the closure of Jonathan Street between Franklin and Church streets. Motorists will be forced to detour around the work zone using other city streets. A detour plan will be implemented to direct traffic around the work area.

Washington County and the City of Hagerstown have provided the following information about road work. Weather permitting, beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, work crews from Slurry Pavers Inc. will be installing a slurry seal surfacing treatment on portions of the following streets: o East Washington Street (U.S. 40 to Richmond Street) o Beechwood Drive (Glenwood Avenue to Fairview Road) o Brinker Drive (East Wilson Boulevard south to the dead end) One lane of each street at a time will be closed while the slurry seal is being applied.

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Washington County engineering officials will hold a community informational meeting Thursday to discuss the rehabilitation of the Barnes Road bridge over Beaver Creek, county spokesman Norman Bassett said in a news release. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Eugene C. Smith Community Center at Shafer Park in Boonsboro.  The purpose of the meeting is to present the need for the project, explain the proposed road closure and temporary detour that will be required, and to answer any questions the public might have, Bassett said.

Dual Highway from Colonial Drive to Eastern Boulevard is again open to traffic after a downed high-voltage power line closed the roadway for about four hours, dispatchers said. Traffic lights were still out on that portion of the road as of midnight, causing traffic congestion, dispatchers said. A portion of Eastern Boulevard remained closed at midnight as crews continued work there, but work there was completed overnight, dispatchers said. The power line fell in the area of Eastern Boulevard south of Dual Highway, dispatchers said.

The Washington County Division of Public Works -- Capital Projects Engineering Department will hold an informational community meeting for the rehabilitation of Harpers Ferry Road Bridge over Antietam Creek. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 7 to 8 pm in the Sharpsburg Town Hall, 106 Main St., in Sharpsburg. The meeting will be postponed until Wednesday Dec. 3, in the case of inclement weather. The purpose of the meeting is to present the project, explain the proposed road closure and temporary detour that will be required, and to answer any questions.

FREDERICK, Md. -- Maryland State Police advises that several roads and highways in Frederick County will be closed or will experience delays Wednesday afternoon during the funeral procession for Frederick Police Officer Richard Mark Bremer. Bremer, 39, died Oct. 23 when his cruiser crashed while he was pursuing a driver. His funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Middletown, Md. Following the funeral, there will be a funeral procession/motorcade to Resthaven Memorial Gardens on U.S. 15. State police estimate the procession will begin at 12:30 to 1 p.m. The following roads will experience significant delays and/or closures, police said: o Maryland 17 and Alternate U.S. 40 o Interstate 70 eastbound from Alternate U.S. 40 to Exit 54 (Md. 355/Md.

Lane of South Potomac to close for roof work Beginning at 3 a.m. Monday, the western through-lane of South Potomac Street will be closed between Washington Street and the First Hose Fire Co. so that work crews can install structural steel on the roof of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. The eastern through-lane will remain open to traffic. Sidewalks on the western side of the street will be closed at either end of the work zone during working hours. Traffic approaching the work zone will encounter cones, barricades, flagpersons and other traffic-control devices.

Black Rock Road at the Interstate 70 underpass will be closed for about 100 days on or around Sept. 15, a contractor rebuilding the interstate bridge said Friday. The road will be closed so Ahern and Associates Inc., which has been contracted by the Maryland State Highway Administration to replace the bridge, can lower Black Rock Road beneath the bridge, said John Rose, eastern district manager for Ahern and Associates Inc. Rose said the road must be excavated to fix "clearance issues.
