Retirement home couple renews wedding vows WILLIAMSPORT - Catherine and James Bachtell renewed their wedding vows Wednesday in a Valentine's Day ceremony before family and residents of a Williamsport retirement home. The couple have been married 59 years and decided Valentine's Day would be a romantic time to reaffirm their love, said Francis "Bob" Kefauver, a resident of the Homewood retirement community where the Bachtell's live. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Reginald Rice in the activity room at Hilltop, which is Homewood's assisted living residence.

" Two of the residents, Irja Lloyd, 81, and Lucille Alpert, 95, are more lucid than most of the others, and have a strong friendship that sustains them.

The Ranger Foundation Inc., a nonprofit retirement home for service horses, will hold an adult volunteer orientation from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 15. The Ranger Foundation gives a home to horses who have given years of work in the military, at police departments and at schools for people with disabilities. Volunteers are needed to help care for horses. Skills in other areas may be helpful. Volunteers need not be experienced. For information, call Ann at 301-797-8051.

Janet Louise Coldsmith, 74, a resident of the Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Home, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, in the home. There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Pa. Arrangements were handled by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.

Helen E. Kinney, 94, a resident of Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Home, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the home. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa. The service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Greencastle Presbyterian Church.

Adam M. Byers, 101, a resident of Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Home and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, May 30, 2011, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.  The service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, Pa. 

Evelyn P. Summers, 90, of Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Home and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church, Greencastle. Maurice L. "Mac" McCarney, 88, of Gearhart Road, Greencastle, Pa., and Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Home, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the nursing home. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Otterbein United Brethren Church, Greencastle. A memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Mildred M. “Milly” Hykes, 82 of Hykes Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, and at Grace Bible Church, Greencastle, one hour before the service Thursday. The service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Herm Fisler officiating. Burial will be in the Beautiful View Cemetery in Middleburg/State Line, Pa.

NOV. 6, 1929-MARCH 13, 2009 BALTIMORE - Sister Maria Goretti Palmisano, 79, of Baltimore, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Villa Assumpta, a retirement home for the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Born Nov. 6, 1929, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Agnes Wheeler Palmisano and Theodore Palmisano. She graduated from St. Ambrose Catholic School in Baltimore and went to Notre Dame Juniorate High School in Fort Lee, N.J. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in August 1949.

A 24-year-old Hagerstown man accused of several residential burglaries, including the homes of relatives and twice at the home of a retired judge, was sentenced Monday in Washington County Circuit Court to 15 years in state prison. Seth Allen Michael Gladhill, formerly of 926 Salem Ave., pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree burglary and one count of theft between $1,000 and $10,000. Judge Daniel P. Dwyer sentenced him to 20 years in prison with five years suspended, plus an additional 20-year suspended sentence.

Keith Bryan, CEO at Fahrney-Keedy Home, was the guest speaker at the Nov. 27 meeting of the Antietam Exchange Club in Hagerstown. Bryan talked about the Boonsboro area facility, a faith-based continuing care retirement home, with residential retirement cottages, assisted living facilities and a nursing home. The facility is situated on a 90-acre parcel, with 40 acres in use. The home is making some upgrades and building additional cottages. It has 217 residents, more than 200 employees and many volunteers.
