A resident of Main Street in Mercersburg has announced his candidacy to become the town's next mayor. Jeremy Jones, a Republican, is the chief operating officer for Flannery's Restaurant Group. In this capacity, he serves as general manager and executive chef for the local business. Jones also owns Jc Jones and Company, which is a private management and culinary consultation business, according to a news release. Jones serves as a volunteer coordinator and speaker for JIL Ministries International of Biglerville, Pa. He has been appointed by the Mercersburg Borough Council and the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce's board of directors to serve on the “police/safety committee” of the borough.

Washington County liquor officials on Wednesday granted a liquor license to a Clear Spring man who said he wants to reopen the former Gateway seafood restaurant at 15124 National Pike. Jason Provard said during a Wednesday hearing before the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County that the restaurant will be called Thunder Road Bar and Grille. He said he plans to have a grand opening May 4. After the hearing, Provard said he intends to buy meats and produce from local farmers.

A restaurant owner who believes there is a lot of business opportunity in downtown Hagerstown joined with local and federal officials Wednesday afternoon to formally open his latest establishment - Vince's Pizza Express. Guests crowded into Roberto Gonzalez's restaurant at 66 E. Franklin St., for a 4 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new eatery. Mayor David S. Gysberts read a proclamation honoring Gonzalez for his investment in downtown and Julianna Albowicz, representative for U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., presented Gonzalez with a senatorial certificate.

There's a new restaurant in town Potomac Family Restaurant, owned by Imad Rababe, is now open at 1 E. Potomac St. in Williamsport. The newly remodeled restaurant features American and Mediterranean cuisine and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu includes gyros, grills, pizza and other dishes. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dine-in, take-out and catering are available.

Hard Times Café and Cue in Hagerstown will host an awareness event for the National MS Society, Maryland Chapter, Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 1705 Massey Boulevard in Hagerstown. Kimberly Robinson, a Greencastle building contractor, former retirement home owner and restaurateur since August 2000, won approval Monday night to add on to her Highline Restaurant and Railway Lounge. The council voted to grant Robinson a waiver to add an $86,000 addition to the restaurant at 101 W. Washington St., described on the Internet as a “premium dining destination.” Robinson said after the meeting that she needed more room to expand the dining room and kitchen and to add a new lounge.

Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Hedgesville area restaurant Monday afternoon. The white male suspect was wearing a gray hoodie, jeans and a black or dark brown ball cap with a white front when he displayed a firearm and stole cash from California Dreams at 4502 Hedgesville Road, West Virginia State Police Sgt. J.D. Burkhart said Tuesday in a news release. The hoodie might have had “Carolina” printed across the chest of the hoodie, police said.
