FUNKSTOWN - While the smell of food drifting from the rear of the Funkstown Fire Hall isn't unusual, it's who is doing the cooking that's attracting attention these days. The Firehouse Grill opened Jan. 8 under the joint ownership of two couples - Larry and Robin Iseminger and Bob "Buddy" Rodgers and his wife, Kim. "I just got tired of working for other people," said Robin Iseminger. The couples are renting the space from the fire company. So I went to Martinsburg with a bit of an attitude to check out the new Corleone Ristorante.

A nearly 240-year-old building next to Hagerstown Speedway east of Clear Spring is housing a new bar and restaurant that is scheduled to open Saturday. A luncheon and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held at Thunder Road Bar and Grille, at 15124 National Pike on Tuesday. The Washington County Commissioners and other county officials attended. The restaurant is in a building that opened in 1778 as a hotel for people traveling by horseback and has since served as a hospital, nursing home, and various other restaurants, said Jim Mills, director of marketing and events for the restaurant.
