Sunday, May 12, 2013 PREP BASEBALL Mercersburg 12, Lawrenceville 2 LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Collin Gibbons-Fly's three-run homer highlighted a seven-run fourth inning as Mercersburg Academy clinched the Mid-Atlantic Prep League regular-season title by beating Lawrenceville. Tiger Smith pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, striking out 14 to improve his record to 6-1. Mike Collins came on in relief and allowed just one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out four.

YOUTH LEAGUES District 1 Senior All-Stars Valley 26, Clear Spring 3: Mike Fox, Joe Acre and Matt Feiser had three hits, Josh Daniels, Wayne Rumbaugh, Luke Kerr and Tyler Wolford had two hits and Rumbaugh, Feiser and Jim Harmon homered for Valley. Hagerstown PONY League Elks 12, Redmen 2: Jason Sutherland, Brock Jamison and Chuck Dobson each had two hits for Elks. One of Sutherland's hits was a home run. Joey Siler had three hits and Nick Bodnar had two for Redmen.

JUNIOR GOLF WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Chad Bricker made nine birdies and shot a sensational 9-under 63 on Monday to win the 16-18 age group of the Tri-State Junior Golf Association tournament at Waynesboro Country Club. Bricker finished nine shots ahead of reigning Pennsylvania high school champion Kevin Reiber, who shot 72. Brandon Shaeffer shot 77 for third. Clayton Rotz won the 14-15 age group, shooting 77, while Alicia Grier finished second with an 82 and Jake Wetzel was third with an 84. Derek Baker's round of 79 was good for first in the 12-13 age group, with Alex Hoffman finishing second with an 84 and Andrew Duff taking third with a 90. BLUE RIDGE BASEBALL Brunswick 15, Waynesboro 0 WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Andy Maught had three hits, including two home runs, to lead Brunswick over Waynesboro.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd College filled the assistant coaching chair on the men's basketball bench with Tim Redding. "We are extremely pleased to add Tim Redding to our staff," Shepherd head coach Ken Tyler said. "He knows our system, and possesses uncommon loyalty and work ethic. " Redding is a 2001 graduate of Albright College, where he was a three-year letterman under Tyler. He spent this past year earning a masters degree in sports leadership, as well as serving an internship in the men's basketball office at Division I Virginia Commonwealth.

GOLF WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Hagerstown's Ashley Grier posted two birdies on the back-nine round that helped her to an even-par 72 on Wednesday in the final stroke play round, vaulting her into today's match play round in the USGA Women's Amateur Public Links tournament at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. Grier, who posted an opening-round 71 on Tuesday, started with a 37 on her first nine and was tied for 16th place before her two birdies put her back into 11th place. She birdied the 342-yard par-4 third, and after a bogey on the following hole, posted a birdie on the 402-yard par-4 sixth hole before finishing her round with three pars.

MARCH 20, 1947-DEC. 20, 2010 SHARPSBURG — Roy E. Itnyre, 63, of Sharpsburg, Md., passed away on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. He was born on March 20, 1947 in the Harpers Ferry, W.Va. area, and resided in the Sharpsburg area his entire life. He was the son of the late Thurston Elwood Itnyre and Ethel Louise Tucker (Itnyre) Allen. He was a 1965 graduate of Boonsboro High School, where he never missed a day of school. Roy was formerly employed by London Fog manufacturer, from 1965 to 1995.

BLUE RIDGE LEAGUE Trey Cobb scored the game-winning run on a hit-and-run RBI double by Mike Spry to lift Hagerstown past Greencastle 1-0 on Monday. Brian Renner tossed a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts for the win. Spry and Kevin Crawford each had two hits for the Hagerstown (11-0). YOUTH LEAGUES West End Little League Elks 18, Stags 4: Ryan Cornett had a grand slam for Elks. Brandon Hess had two hits for Stags. West End Minor FOP 9, Hiser's Concrete 8: Kevin Kretzer, Dustin Simmons, and Trevor Shuck each had three hits for FOP. Paul Bigler and Josh Shingleton each had three hits for Hiser.
