On April 9, Maryland builders Advantage Homes hosted a Realtor luncheon at Brunswick (Md.) Crossing. Fifty Realtors toured town-home and single-family home models offered by Advantage Homes. The Realtors also entered drawings for prizes. Guests toured three of Advantage's models: The Essex neotraditional single-family home, The Asbury traditional single-family home and The Eaton town home. Brunswick restaurant Beans in the Belfry provided finger foods. The following Realtors won door prizes:  Laura S. The 19th annual Pen-Mar Realtor Invitational Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Aug. 2, at Black Rock Golf Course.    The tournament will begin at noon, with registration and lunch beginning at 11 a.m.  The entry fee costs $340 for a team of four or $85 for singles. All proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Washington County and Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County, Pa.  Over the past 18 years, a total of nearly $120,000 has been raised for this endeavor.

The Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors hosted a forum Friday at the Plaza Hotel in Halfway to let the candidates who are running for Hagerstown mayor and city council express their views, said Tamar Osterman, a Pen-Mar spokeswoman. Each of the candidates was asked to answer three questions on topics that included improving home ownership and economic development. Ten of the 14 candidates who are running in the election attended the forum. City elections are Tuesday, May 19.

Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors recently held its 18th annual golf tournament at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, which raised a total of $8,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Washington County and Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County, Pa. A total of 75 players participated, and there were 27 hole and tee sponsors, along with major sponsors. The association has contributed more than $118,000 over the last 18 years to the two Habitat organizations. Those who are interested in volunteering with either Habitat organization or receiving their monthly newsletters may call the Washington County office at 301-791-9009 or the Franklin County office at 717-267-1899.

Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors is seeking entries for a poster contest from children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Illustrations will be judged and those selected will be forwarded to Maryland Association of Realtors as potential entries in its annual 2014 Fair Housing Poster Contest. Winners will be featured in the association's 2014 calendar. This year's theme is “Diversity Makes Great Neighborhoods.” Artwork can be delivered to the Pen-Mar office at 300 Cameo Drive in Hagerstown.

With plentiful inventory and record-breaking housing affordability conditions, Realtors expect this year's spring home-buying season to be a busy one. To kick off the season, Realtors from coast to coast will host thousands of open houses as part of the Realtor Nationwide Open House Weekend. On April 28 and 29, Realtors in Washington County will hold open houses all weekend, bringing buyers and sellers together. “This nationwide event offers buyers the chance to visit some of the many homes in their local area while learning more about homeownership,” Darwyn Benedict, president of Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors Inc., said in a news release.

The Tuscarora School Board is seeking Realtors to sell its central office building on East Seminary Street. Superintendent Rebecca Erb told the school board Monday the district should be ready to vacate the building in one year. Board members asked her to advertise for Realtors to find the best fee. Business Administrator Eric Holtzman said Tuesday that the central office functions will be moved to Mercersburg Elementary School when renovations there are finished. “It reduces our total square footage across the district, so it reduces our total operating costs,” he said.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - The Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors presented donations to several area organizations at the association's October luncheon meeting at the Penn National Golf Club. A $2,000 check from the Maryland Association of Realtors went to the Hagerstown Home Store. The money will aid the Home Store's "Smart Move" program, which provides funds for home rehabilitation in target areas of downtown Hagerstown. Washington County Habitat for Humanity received $4,500 raised at the PMRAR golf tournament plus $2,500 from the Maryland Association of Realtors and $5,000 from First Horizon Home Loans.

When Donovan and Laura Bachtell put their luxury three-bedroom town home up for sale in 2008, they had no idea of the bargain-basement fever the recession was causing. “We just thought it would sell.
