HAGERSTOWN - Martin Joe McDaniel nearly lost the stuffing from his bra as Hagerstown Police Department officers took him to the ground and placed him under arrest Wednesday. McDaniel, 42, who was wearing a tan minidress with a black bow, and two other men were charged with prostitution general during a nearly two-hour Hagerstown Police Department undercover operation in the first block of North Prospect Street. Herman Marshall Bartles, 81, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Steven Louis Menard, 42, of Hagerstown, also were charged during the sting.

GREENE Staff Writer Videotaping prostitutes, preaching morals to them and getting state assistance in cracking down on solicitation were among solutions proposed Tuesday night by Hagerstown officials meeting with a group of concerned citizens. Problems with prostitutes hanging out near St. Mary's School prompted about 18 residents to attend the mayor and City Council's Tuesday regular session in hopes of raising awareness of the problem. The problem has gotten worse in recent years, said Stephen L. Hummel, who is active in the school's home-school association and acted as spokesman for the parents.

FREDERICK, Md. - A police prostitution sting Thursday night led to a criminal charge against a Frederick man, police said Saturday. Ronald Wayne Thomas, 46, of 7803B Edgewood Church Road, was charged with soliciting a prostitute, Frederick Police said. An undercover female officer posed as a prostitute in the 500 block of North Market Street about 10 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 33-year-old woman charged with one count of solicitation of prostitution and a felony county of animal cruelty in November 2008 resolved one of the charges in magistrate court on Tuesday. Breshannon L. Deveraux entered a guilty plea to the prostitution charge. She was credited for serving 105 days in jail and no additional sentence was added, Berkeley County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Harvey said. Deveraux, who was still incarcerated at Eastern Regional Jail Tuesday evening, also was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $159.

A Hagerstown woman was charged with prostitution Tuesday after a plainclothes police officer asked her about oral sex, according to Washington County District Court records. Jeannine Heather Ricketts, 51, of 1729 National Pike, was being held Wednesday night in the Washington County Detention Center on $8,000 bond, a jail spokesman said. Hagerstown Police Department Detective M. Kovac said in court papers city police officers were working on a prostitution detail downtown Tuesday afternoon when he approached Ricketts in a North Prospect Street area where there have been frequent prostitution complaints.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A man and woman were arraigned in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on charges of prostitution after county sheriff's department deputies on Wednesday allegedly caught the couple engaged in a sexual act, according to court records. Norman Woodrow Silver, 64, of 36 Chris Drive, Martinsburg, was arraigned on a misdemeanor count of soliciting prostitution, and Tammy Annette Norton, 33, of 421 Kentucky Ave., Martinsburg, was arraigned on one misdemeanor count of second-offense prostitution, according to court records.

Conrad Chester, 25, of 221 Seminary St., Charles Town, W.Va., was given probation before judgment, a $100 fine and one year unsupervised probation. William Holmes Grove, 43, of 819 Concord St., was given probation before judgment, a $100 fine and one year unsupervised probation.
