The adult/teen education committee of Renfrew Institute for Cultural and Environmental Studies is sponsoring a three-program series titled "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renew!" The programs are free and open to the public, and registration is not required. Donations are accepted. The first presentation is on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the visitors center at Renfrew Park. Dan Wolfe, community planner and Franklin County recycling coordinator, will present "Solution to Pollution: Every Litter Bit Counts.

CHAMBERSBURG, PA. -- Blue and white balloons bobbed in the breeze earlier this month as Franklin County (Pa.) Day Reporting Center (DRC) clients and their loved ones entered a stone building for graduation. Some graduates had worked for months, others for years, to reach the culmination of classes, therapies, drug and alcohol testing, and good behavior. Most had not chosen to enroll in the behavior modification and life skills programs, but had been assigned to them by a judge.

BOONSBORO -- Each year, dozens of individuals and families volunteer to make wishes come true by purchasing and wrapping holiday gifts for the children and teens in the foster-care program and group homes operated by San Mar. Their generosity floods the homes with piles of brightly wrapped packages chosen for each child, but it also requires coordination to match children with donors, keep track of what has come in and make sure the gifts are...

The sounds of Diana Ross filled the room and feather boas were waving back and forth at Robinwood Medical Center during a unique educational program designed for women with diabetes. Titled Divabetic, the hospital's community outreach group and Robinwood Endocrinology Center brought the program to Hagerstown to help women incorporate fun and a feeling of empowerment to their diabetes self-management program. Nearly 70 women attended. "Our hope is that the participants left feeling more confident about caring for themselves in a healthy manner," said Cindy Earle, RN, community health education coordinator at the hospital.

HAGERSTOWN -- For more than 30 years, Beth Ann Stouffer has managed the food pantry at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown to help people who are less fortunate. On Thursday, Stouffer and two others, Howard Rockwell and Dr. Dan McDougal, were honored at Fountain Head Country Club for their philanthropic service during the Community Foundation of Washington County's 10th Annual People's Choice Awards. The ceremony is held to recognize members of the community who unselfishly donate their time, talents and abilities to help make life better for others.
